@TheLadyE I’ve been through a couple bangs phases in my adult life and I always trimmed my own between haircuts/never went to the salon just for a bang trim. I think I was good at it! I’m glad they turned out ok because it’s a huge time and money saver to just DIY them.

In IL they’re now predicting we won’t peak until mid-June. The predicted peak keeps getting pushed out. I know I’m not alone in this but… I’m frustrated. I know logically this won’t last forever but that’s how I feel right now.

That’s how the whole country feels. I run a poll every week at work, and worry and fear have now declined and frustration is way up. This is among mass affluent and affluent consumers. I think we’d see something a lot more bleak among gen pop, because these people are mostly still getting paid.

I don’t understand from a technical perspective why states would be expected to peak in mid-June. What’s supposed to happen in June to slow down the rate of transmission that didn’t happen during the previous two months?

I think as people effectively social distance and stay at home, the peak keeps getting pushed out.

Yeah, so from what I’ve read, a delayed peak means we avoided a drastic spike/explosion of cases. From that perspective, it’s a good thing. But it’s disheartening. We’ve been under SAH orders for two months now, and the predicted peak keeps getting pushed out. First it was supposed to be mid-April. Then mid-May. Now mid-June.

I can’t seem to find a straight answer on whether MA has peaked, and we’re definitely the only New England state that hasn’t reopened or will do so next week. No actual plan has been articulated. Oh, except you can golf. Kind of ridiculous because if you really want to do something you can right now go to NH. I’m not going to, but I’m sure people are doing that.

I just ordered a CSA for the summer since I’m pretty sure our shelter in place will stay in effect for a long while. I know that’s pessimistic, but we’ve steadily increased our cases since, IDK, St. Pat’s. I’d prefer not to give my hopes up. And even if we did start to open up, I’d still wait two to three weeks to see what happens. I’m personally glad we’re taking the cautious route to reopening, as much as it sucks.

I think we finally figured out the car situation and I might finally buy a bike.

People outside on nice days are a holes. Walking in groups. Taking up the entire sidewalk and not moving over. Not wearing masks. I will really only walk early mornings now.

That sucks about the walkers @Ktfran. In our neighborhood, there’s plenty of space to go around the sidewalk (the roads, etc.) so almost no one walking wears a mask. I don’t either – but everyone in our neighborhood goes around each other – with lots of distance.

Colorado as let up on some restrictions. I don’t plan to go out though (besides the usual grocery run). I do have to make a run to a post office for work but thankfully the college has it’s own PO and I don’t have to go to a public one!

Still debating on getting my hair done on June 5th. It’s not a huge salon and they are taking precautions but it still makes me nervous!

I also want a bike, but prefer to buy one that I’ve tested out in person (right now I’ve seen some online-only bike sales, but haven’t looked that hard). I actually got a Divvy membership yesterday — it’s 50% off right now and I feel okay using that service since I can wipe the bikes down before touching them. I figure I might turn into a bike commuter when we go back to work. I’m trying to see first if I can gain confidence biking on city streets. It’s scared me up until now. So yesterday I biked four miles on my Divvy, but realized I’m clueless about biker hand signals and, more specifically, making lefthand turns on a bike.

    @Kate
I’ve liked this site for information: https://covid19.healthdata.org/united-states-of-america/massachusetts. They’re a bit behind, though. Looks like MA started seeing downward trends late April, but it hasn’t been a consistent downward trend.

@Copa – I’m the same with you when it comes to bikes (i.e., afraid of crazy drivers in the city), which is why I don’t own one. The husband doesn’t mind biking. He uses Divvy, but hasn’t since the pandemic started. We’ll see.

I’d be a-okay commuting by bike on the lakeshore trail to work but… it’s closed. I don’t think Chicago had designated bike lanes when I first moved here, but they do now and my short ride yesterday (rode a bit down Southport, Lincoln, and Clark) was fine. I didn’t feel scared, which I thought I would, but I also know traffic isn’t what it would be during rush hour.

ETA: I hopped on my Divvy last night, which marked the first time I’ve been on a bike in IDK how long, and my boyfriend was nearby. I yelled back at him as I rode off down Southport that I felt like a free woman, haha. I totally did, though!

Thanks Copa! I guess that’s why it hasn’t been clear.

I will feel comfortable getting a cut and highlights every 2-3 months because I know my salon has had rigorous training in all things sanitary and will follow guidelines about capacity and such. But I may not be in there for weekly blowouts anymore, which makes me feel bad because the woman who does my blowouts has two little kids. I don’t get them in the summer anyway and I’ve bought gift cards in her name to support her the last couple months in lieu of getting blowouts.
