@CanadaGoose, funny you mention that, sounds like we are in the same province in the PNW. I am chatting with a guy, and the dentist who passed away that attended that conference was his childhood one. Albeit not a family member, does hit close to home when it is someone they knew.

It IS bizarre not to have Memorial day plans! We usually take my dad up to his hometown to decorate graves but we can’t do that this year. We aren’t big BBQ or party people but it would be nice to have people over. We’ll probably just hang on our hammocks and day drink.

Missouri is “open” sort of, and has been since May 4. We can now dine in restaurants and get haircuts. I got my haircut yesterday and we both had to wear masks. The salon was half empty and super clean. It was nice to do something “normal.” So far we’ve eaten in a restaurant once and only on a patio. All the waiters had to wear gloves and masks. Not sure how the gloves work though unless they had to change between every single table?

So for our weekend we are putting new flooring in one room of the house (DIY not hiring someone to come in) and getting the yard ready for the new roof that will be put on…..whenever they decide to show up it seems. We need to move a few landscaping items and such and get the garden covered before they start ripping shingles off.

Honestly, once you are indoors at home, social distancing is irrelevant. Closed spaces are just a huge risk for anyone because of the closer confined spaces, and shared surfaces etc. SO if you plan to open your social circle @hfantods you just need to be wary on who else you bring in and where you go for errands. Obviously still limit the frequency of visiting your folks because regardless opening your social circle is still a risk unless otherwise stated by Ontario officials.

Wearing masks has continually been recommended to avoid people spreading the virus through bodily droplets. So start wearing them if you haven’t already for errands if you haven’t been.

Our health officer in BC has basically stated if you plan to do anything, do it outside (we have reduced limitations now due to our success but please keep an eye on Ontarios rules and follow those). UV radiation and the outdoors has been shown to reduce the probability of spreading the virus. Hence why indoor facilities and group gatherings in indoor spaces have been banned. Group gatherings over certain sizes even outdoors are still not recommended since the gathering of large groups regardless of being outside propagates the chances of contracting due to close contact with people.

Haha we know UV light and heat is bad for the virus, that’s why our President thought it’d be a good idea to put the light inside the body. You know, with the bleach.

I have cut & highlight appointments every 9-10 weeks, and it was already on the calendar for next Friday the 29th. Salons will open on the 26th. Not nails or eyebrows but I’ve gotten good at doing those myself. I feel like our governor is being kind of sexist? Like, golf and gun shops were open weeks ago. Then “phase 1” of reopening, which will last 3 weeks, it’s like, construction, manufacturing, and barbers. I guess he had to say salons too if guys can go to barbers. But retail shops, spas, and restaurants and hotels have to wait til the next phase, and that’s where a lot of women’s jobs are, and women-owned businesses. Never mind childcare.

I have a standing six-week cut and color appointment. Tonight would have been another one. The last was, well, six weeks ago. So, I’ve had two come and go since Covid.

I did get a note from my stylist a few weeks back that I’m on her priority list for re-open.

I received an e-mail today that they are going to contact people and start making appointments June 1 and they outlined the protocols. So, yay, I hope.

I haven’t gotten a cut in over ten weeks and I’m sure it’ll be many weeks before I get one. ?

There’s all sorts of interesting stuff happening with Far-UVC light, which kills viruses while not being dangerous to humans. In the meantime it’s probably better to walk around staring at the sun with your mouth open to get as much sun in your lungs as possible.

My last cut/color was Feb 29th. That’s a long time for a pixie. And my hair grows out, not down. It’s a big, messy fluff ball.

I haven’t had my hair cut since mid-November! In February I decided I’d wait until after my vacation to see my stylist since Hawaii is so humid and I knew I’d just be rocking braids the whole time, but things pretty quickly got weird after I came home and it didn’t happen. I don’t color my hair, so that helps. I trimmed my face frame by myself recently and think it looks fine but I’m sure my stylist will disagree. I got an email today about their reopening protocol and it seems pretty thorough.

My mom has short hair and has most of my life. It’s the longest I can ever remember seeing it and it’s looking pretty mullet-ish right now.

My friend’s salon is doing a contest on Instagram with giveaways for the customers who have the worst roots, which I think is hilarious.

My mom was always very professional and put-together, with high-quality cuts and color. Then a year and a half ago something happened with her health that she won’t talk about or let my dad talk about, and she basically started isolating herself as if it was a pandemic. She stopped cutting her hair and just would use box dye on her roots. Now her hair is way longer than it should be and she’s been cutting it herself, and when the actual pandemic started she decided to just go gray. So she just like puts her hair up in a bun and wraps a scarf around her head. It’s weird. But she doesn’t care and refuses to go to the salon where she used to be every 4 weeks without fail. I feel like if you’re going to transition to gray after dyeing your hair forever you should get a cute short haircut and a professional’s help.
