I think it’s two separate things. One is that the way Ambien works, once you take it you must go to sleep, not stay up reading news and posting online, or you’re dangerously impaired. I took it once and didn’t know that, and OMG. You’re actually really fucked up. And then there’s the thing about all sleeping pills, that they stop working and cause rebound insomnia over time.

Keyblade, I would consider the various encouragements provided throughout this thread seriously. Your request to delete seems impulsive and your posts indicate that you’re stuck in a bit of a cycle. You indicate you’re getting help but it remains unclear if you’re under the care of a physician and a mental health professional in addition to exercising your faith, the books recommended, and various self care strategies. I hope you’re seeing a doctor and someone skilled in addressing ways to change the cycle that you find yourself in since it doesn’t sound like you feel well.May 29, 2018 at 10:41 am #754353
Thanks Sunshine. Yeah, Keyblade, I’m hesitant to just make it go away. There’s a lot going on here and it’s been an ongoing process of seeking help here. You’ve stated you’re depressed, anxious, can’t sleep, can’t stop doing activities that are messing with your sleep, and alluded to other things wrong. I second (third, fourth, fifth?) the suggestion that you get real help. What kind of help are you currently getting? You should be seeing a real mental health professional, a physician, and you should be getting a host of tests to rule out physical problems. You have not sounded well for a while now. You do not need to be embarrassed about that, but know that we are concerned about you. Your comments, your threads, your thoughts — they don’t sound like they come from someone in her right mind. And it’s not *just* at night when you have taken an ambience (though I agree you should not be online after you take an ambien – you should be lying down, trying to go to sleep!). We don’t need to know all the details of what’s going on with you; it’s not our business. But we do hope you are getting real, actual help. It doesn’t sound like you are. Thanks. I do have a therapist who I need to follow up with.
So I saw my practitioner awhile ago about changing things. I was also concerned about Ambien abuse, so I asked if we could try something else at night and I’ve tried a few different things. But nothing else really works. I know things need to be tweaked for my anxiety, too.
Still anonymousse and Kate were right, I totally was abusing Ambien. I realize that now. I’ve been taking a higher frequency more and more often because my anxiety hasn’t been going away and it has affected my thinking and it’s been causing a rebound affect. I went cold turkey last week and it was awful. I didn’t sleep for about two or three nights. But I have been able to go to sleep on my own the last few nights.
I have been in limbo with some major life choices for awhile now. I haven’t had a real career up until this point and I barely feel adequate as it is. I know I need to work through things. What feels right to address first? Do your best to avoid numbing while you figure that out what pain needs to be addressed first. This could be something to explore with your therapist as well. Yeah, staying in limbo and medicating, while resisting making life changes, is going to make you miserable. It’s not a solution. So to SB’s point, what can you address first? What makes you feel like, “yes, I could do that, and it feels right?”
