So hot take – while W was not the most cerebral president we’ve had, I think he’s more intelligent than he was perceived to be. And I think he let that perception of him stand as it helped with his folksy, he’s a dude I’d wanna have a beer with so I’ll vote for him for president appeal.

That’s not to say I agree AT ALL with his policies, and his administration made plenty of dumb decisions, but I don’t think he’s the idiot media portrayed him to be, and unfortunately by underestimating him he got away with a lot of shit.

W wasn’t dumb. There’s a study you can Google where a scientist estimated the IQs of all the presidents using whatever factors, and ranked them. It was in 2006 so Obama, Trump, and Biden aren’t in it.

Clinton is #4! W is toward the bottom, but not the dumbest. Smarter than Harding, Monroe, and Grant (and Trump I’m sure). Reagan, Carter, and HW are in the middle of the pack. None of these are dumb people. They’re all estimated to have an IQ of at least 120, which puts them above the 90th percentile. Clinton’s a genius.

Hell, even Trump might have an IQ around 120, i don’t know, it’s possible, he must have some inherent intelligence, but I think he either has learning differences that were never dealt with, or is incredibly lazy, or both, so the result is that he doesn’t seem to know shit about fuck. I think it’s likely, though, that he has a low IQ and knows it, because “low IQ” is one of his favorite insults for others. SAT scores have a published correlation with IQ, and he won’t release his. He must know it’s low.

I think el Cheeto definitely has some unmanaged learning issues. Anytime he reads a speech – instead of off the cuff ad libbing – you can immediately tell. I call it the “unfamiliar haggadah”. That’s the book we read on Passover. You know the basics of the story – but if it’s the first few years using that particular book, the words are unfamiliar.

But he has an unparalleled ability to read people. Those he can’t bribe he simply threatens with whatever is important to them.

He’s smart about branding, and about not leaving a paper trail, that kind of thing.

Oh please. W. And Trump have both incredibly low iqs. Just watch them try to fucking speak. Honestly? I can’t believe this subject is even up for debate.

No snart person suggests injecting patients with bleach to kill a virus. Or looks as uttee dazed and confused and dimwitted as Bush did upon learning 9/11. No smart person then gleefully invades the wrong country while bankrupting tbe nation either.

I think Trump has a very instinctual understanding of branding and messaging.

I don’t know that he can articulate it, I think it’s more like…a savant-like quality. But he absolutely seems to know what levers to pull to resonate with a particular audience in a way few others can.

Also – I don’t know if he’s unintelligent just so much as he is a warped person. He had a very bizarre childhood. He was raised incredibly wealthy and economically privileged, while at the same time sounds like his dad was an absolute terror and his mom pretty emotionally absent. He’s this warped person that doesn’t understand like…how to have empathy or think beyond his own self-interest.

I don’t know if that’s stupidity, but it’s certainly a problem if you are leading other people.

I will say – specific only to the 9-11 moment, yes that was not an ideal reaction to have captured live on camera.

But…how were you reacting when you found the news? I’m sure if there was a camera on me when I learned terrorist had flown commercial airplanes into multiple buildings in multiple places, I’m sure I wouldn’t have come across as staid, unflappable, and ready to spring into action.

Perhaps we should hold our President to a different standard than a teenage girl, but it’s not like FDR had a camera on him the moment he heard about Pearl Harbor, you know what I’m saying?

Oh Trump is an absolute moron. He does not know how to run a business, he knows nothing of arts and culture, he has no capacity for scientific thinking. His education was bought and paid for – similar to W.

He’s spent the better part of 70 years being told how smart he is and he’s created a world where everyone is paid to say that. If they don’t, they are out on their asses. But other countries don’t have to play that game. He’s been outsmarted by almost everyone he’s encountered, Putin, Taliban, Kim Jong Il, because he completely lacks any self reflection. He thinks he’s the smartest person, but he isn’t. He thinks everyone is as corrupt as him, they may or may not be. He thinks people respect him – they don’t.

I’m begrudgingly giving him credit (albeit limited). I worked for a guy like him a long time ago. Everyone made excuses for his terrible behavior because he paid their salaries. Some were convinced there was nothing better out there. They were so far gone on the kool-aid there was no talking to them.

From what I’ve read #45 made the agreement to pull troops out of Afghanistan, it was a campaign promise made the 4 year-term in office.

Unless you have a son or daughter, niece, nephew etc., it might very well look like an idiotic idea. Lost of American military for a fight over power seem like a huge price to pay. End results we have more enemies at home than abroad.

I do agree that the process should have been more organized and the media aided in Breaking News reports of the pull-out of American troops. Also to be fair the Afghan military had 20 years to prepare for this event. Do you think the US should have stayed forever – it was a never-ending war (was it declared a war?) –

I recall a well-known female reporter says “95% of the opium grown in Afghanistan would end up in the US – apparently instead of preventing the import of drug, a fortune was made by “someone(s)” in America.
