Anyone get hit yet? I’ve been sick as a dog the last few days. My abs will be amazing when this is over though from coughing. Feel like I’ve been doing crunches all day. Going to the dr tomorrow just to stay ahead of it since the flu is so bad this year. Not that they will do much for a flu but I am prone to bronchitis also which suckkksss. And I started my period. So I am a bundle of joy and pain. Basically living in the bathtub and bed.

So sorry you’re feeling like crap, but if it’s been more than 48 hours, I don’t think there’s anything they can do for you at the dr office so long as you’re not developing sepsis or a flu related complication. Both of my kiddos got hit right around Christmas, but thankfully we got them to the dr straightaway to start on Tamiflu, so they really only felt terrible for around 48 hours. My little guy’s fever hit 105 so we ended up at the ER on Christmas day. He has asthma so I’m a little more cautious.

Ya doubting much the dr can do flu wise. After five years in a row of bronchitis I try to get ahead of it or it’s miserable and lasts months. Last few times I’ve been put in an Inhaler which ya know at least allows me to breathe which I tend to appreciate. Kept waking up last night catching my breath then running to the bathroom to have a coughing fit that nearly made me pass out from not breathing. Ughhhh.

I don’t think it was the flu but it was something that was awful back in December like RIGHT after Christmas. Glad it’s gone but it took me down for a solid two weeks, and i coughed for an additional 3 weeks.

That’s exactly what I had this past Christmas. The Friday before, I woke up and basically threw up all night. Then, the next several days I had TONS of drainage and kept coughing that up/choking. Like, so much fluid cam up. I didn’t have any body aches or the chills or anything. I finally went to the Dr. because I wasn’t getting better. Got a chest x-ray. Was diagnosed with bronchitis. Got a steroid shot, some meds and some cough syrup with codeine to help me sleep. Finally, 4 days later, I was feeling better and could actually eat again. I was sick for over two weeks. Worst Christmas ever.

I honestly wished I had gone to the Dr’s sooner than I did.

@ktfran omg yes my head is like a faucet. Killed a box of tissues in two days. So achey. Have had a low grade fever for three days now and I know something isn’t good with my lungs. Soooo miserable. And now awesome cramps! I keep asking my SO to just bury me alive outside but he refuses. Meanie.

Oh, I had a fever too. I didn’t realize I did, but when the nurse took my temp… 102. I was already at my parents for Christmas and yes, I went through SO MANY BOXES OF KLEENEX TOO! This is gross, but I thought about keeping a “spit” bucket near me… I didn’t, because disgusting!

Anyway, within a couple days of taking the drugs, I started to feel better. It was about another week before I felt fully like myself again and was able to eat normal.

Most of my co-workers have been taken out by the flu this year and I’m surprised I haven’t gotten sick. I had to travel to my company’s HQ mid-January, and one the co-workers I traveled with got sick our first night there and was sent home the next day. I felt so bad for him that he had to travel in that condition. A co-worker based out of our HQ sounded terrible on our conference calls for a solid 2-3 weeks. Everyone’s illnesses, flu or not, have seemed terrible this year, so I’m keeping my fingers crossed that I’m in the clear. I used to get bronchitis every single year, and it was dumb.

Oh dear I cannot imagine being on a plane in this condition. I would be crying. I don’t know that I’d even be able to walk through the airport, also not great for all the people on the plane sharing germs. Eww!

I basically never get a flu shot, but after hearing so many flu horror stories I caved and got the vaccine this year. The doctor had warned me though that it wasn’t as effective against this season’s strains but if I got it I’d have lesser symptoms. Since then, every sneeze n cough I’ve been paranoid that I was finally coming down with the flu, but fortunately it looks like it’s mostly just been indoor allergens. A bunch of friends and acquaintances came down with it though and they felt beyond awful. And now that this has posted, I’ll probably come down with the flu by the end of the week….

I extended my Christmas trip home because the thought of riding Amtrak back while that sick, no thank you. My sister was driving back a couple days later. I waited for and rode with her.

Ha, @bondgirl, you sound like me! I’ve started coughing a bit the past couple days but otherwise feel perfectly fine. And I’m like, “This is it. It’s finally here. It’s coming for me.” This and next week are pretty busy for me at work, so if something takes me out… I’m really hoping it holds off for two more weeks. 😐

ETA: I mostly get around by public transit and I’ll regularly see someone, y’know, hacking away on the train, or sneezing into their hand and then grabbing the rail on the bus. I vacillate between “OMG, gross, now I’m gonna get that” and “Wow, being on here is really doing wonders for my immunity.”
