JD: i bought several people the beer cap maps. THEY LOVE THEM. I won gifting that yearSeptember 19, 2018 at 10:00 am #798109
I know a lot of folks love the 23 & me. Be advised that their business model, recently revealed, includes selling the data (without names) to pharma companies. I work in pharma so I totally understand the opportunity but I still advise caution.
I like the gift of the month but those get pricey. I did rootbeer of the month for my Dad (birthday) and the shipping doubled the cost of the rootbeer. But it was worth it. I think my sister did Orchid of the month for our mom.
I have such a lovely limited gift list that I get my holiday glee from not having to deal with what you guys deal with. 3 nephews (gift cards & legos) and my mom’s birthday (hardest gift ever but I manage).
I’ve told my story before but 1. Jewish 2. “We get what we need, let’s give to others at the holiday instead -kids under 18 excepted” has been the most wonderful holiday gift my mom ever gave the family.
And since I bought holiday cards on discount after the holidays last year… I just gotta fill those things out and I’m done.September 19, 2018 at 3:20 pm #798158
When my husband and I give each other gifts, we don’t have an exact set dollar amount that we each spend, but we do tend to try for relatively equal parity in gift size/expense.
But when you are buying pairs of tickets to a show or something, which by default you’ll probably go to together, do you think of the size of that gift as being the amount you spent on both tickets, or just the amount you spent on the other’s person’s?
Usually the event gifts I buy for him are things that I wouldn’t spent money to attend on my own behalf, but that I’ll definitely have fun at along with him.
This isn’t something he’s ever brought up, of course, and I’m know I’m probably overthinking it, I’m just curious how you see it!September 19, 2018 at 3:37 pm #798159
Hmm. I guess I usually don’t even think about it. I usually just gift him what I want to gift him and I don’t worry about $. I definitely spent more last year because I bought the season theater tickets and a few other things. But he bought me something I desperately wanted and wouldn’t buy myself for whatever reason. I don’t feel slighted.September 19, 2018 at 4:21 pm #798166
Ya I don’t think we consider the amount spent. Sometimes he spends more and sometimes I do, simply due to whatever the gift might be.September 19, 2018 at 5:05 pm #798170
A beer advent calendar is an awesome idea! I can get it sent directly to him before he comes home for Christmas. Aldi did a great one but they don’t exist near me, looks like there are some good ones online though.September 20, 2018 at 7:59 am #798229
@Lisforleslie. Many subscriptions you can just pay a set time period up front without the option to renew. I’m sure not all are that way but that’s what I have done when I gift those.September 20, 2018 at 8:17 am #798233
@ange, I bet he would enjoy it. Instead of binoculars this year, I might look into it for the husband too!September 20, 2018 at 1:43 pm #798263
Thanks for posting that link @jd! I think you just helped me find something to get my brother, brother in-laws and husband (birthday). I like the crown hole game and the maps.
Here’s a link to the filthy farm girl soaps incase anyone is interested:
They are pretty funny!September 20, 2018 at 6:36 pm #798303
We chatted on the phone last night and oh my goodness he’s such a funny dude. I’ve been looking for a crocheted nanna blanket FOREVER but haven’t found one that’s the right size, colours or price. I finally found one earlier this year and my poor husband was so upset, he’d gone and taught himself to crochet off youtube and was making me one himself! I can hardly stand how amusing it was hearing about his yarn shopping trip and how all the grannies in there were oohing and aahing at him. So if he can get it finished in time that’s going to be my Christmas present and I’ll pass on the one I bought. We live in the tropics so the new one can be a family heirloom for a while lol.October 17, 2018 at 10:50 am #805178
Brain is stressing over what to get husband. I keep buying him clothes randomly but I don’t want to just buy clothes for him. I want to get him something he wants not needs, or that means something. Sigh.
In the meantime I think these shoes are being put in my cart for him:
My ex loves Ugg shoes. Not the fluffy Ugg type, but these. Apparently they are SOOOo comfy so these seemed like a good option when I came across them. I also know I am getting him a Northface outer shell. He has a few of the inserts of different weight he can zip into the shell. I believe he used to have one but for whatever reason doesn’t anymore.
Any ideas on something more fun I would love. I know he wants a new pool stick….no idea how to select one though. I did a bit of research but good lord it’s like me buying a handbag. So many options, so many opinions, styles, etc. If anyone has any knowledge about this do share. I might have to find his teammates phone number and ask him.October 17, 2018 at 2:11 pm #805213
Where does one get an alcoholic advent calendar? That would be such a fun gift! I’d definitely get one for BG to kick off the holiday season.
