    OMG Wendy! Yes to the woo. I am a deep believer even though I am such a skeptic generally. I believe in the sun, stars, moon and earth and do woo woo stuff. This year/last is supposed to be my time and it kind of feels great and like, yes are right on track and my life plan is working out, even though it didn’t seem to be sometimes. I feel my power growing I’d that sounds weird and confident. It’s great.

    Or the depression meds have REALLY kicked in, but my dr thinks I’m just happy.

    Re: Glassdoor, I think you can get a general idea on there, but I do suspect companies are doing fake reviews and removing some negative ones. At one company I worked for, we were asked/encouraged to write a positive GD review to counteract some negative ones. My impression back then was that they couldn’t actually get the negative ones removed, but that may have changed.

    Of course it’s always best to know someone at a company so you can get the real scoop.

    When the husband was considering the move, I told him to talk to a few people that had previously left our company and went to the new to see how they liked the move. He did. All three had glowing reviews.

    Yeah, I noticed when I had negative but not like, abusive or nasty feedback, glassdoor took it down or hid it a few years ago. I think everything online is so skewed. I don’t even used LinkedIn, I mean I have an account but it’s like Facebook for work. I don’t want more social media. Although maybe people have found it useful for networking? I check in twice a year, congratulate some folks on their advancements.

    Glad I’m not the only one leaning into the woo. I have a couple friends who have gotten into things like crystals and astrology. Is this the beginning of my crystals era? We’ll find out.

    I don’t know what’s up with Glassdoor. The company I did try to review, what I wrote was rational and balanced. Giving that experience three stars felt generous! That company was (and last I checked still is) an “engaged employer” on GD, so I suspect someone was tasked with flagging reviews that included negativity. There were some super fake-sounding glowing reviews of the place. Every company I’ve worked at has had good with the bad (or bad with the good, which is how I feel atm). I suspect my salary was removed because it was on the high end for the role I had, but who knows. Even the summary of my interview experience was removed, which, if I recall correctly, was a series of questions you answer/stating facts, like how you applied and how long the process took. I’m a petty b so when GD emails my saying there are new reviews of my old employer, I’ll go in and “like” anything that tells the experience as it really is and flag anything that sounds fake.

    I find LinkedIn kinda weird, but I’m on there. The “influencer” posts on there make me LOL. I get emails from recruiters sometimes, but it has never led to a new job. I like looking at profiles of people with similar education and work history to see their career trajectories and whatnot. I’ve kept in touch with old coworkers a bit.

    An update nobody asked for: At the beginning of this month, I threw my hat in the ring for a position at a higher level at another organization. Honestly, kinda figured I’d never hear back and pretty quickly forgot I’d even applied. I have a phone interview tomorrow morning! And I have major imposter syndrome even though nothing has even happened, haha.

    If nothing else, I’m flattered they even want to speak to me and feel reassured that my application materials are solid enough to get a call back.

    Thank you! I’m looking at it as information gathering and (recent) interview experience for now. If it’s not the right fit for one or both parties, that’s okay.

    As a side note, if anyone has input on the following, I’m curious. The job is at a higher level than where I currently am and the gap between where I am and the potential job felt big enough that I didn’t expect anything to come of it. I’m still curious to learn more, though. Since applying, another job has been posted. That job is at a lower level within the same department, but still feels like a step up from where I currently am. Basically, it’s less intimidating and had both been open two weeks ago, I’d have applied for the lower position with confidence. Is there a way to express my interest in that one as well without undermining myself? I’m still curious to hear more about the job that I applied for, but it did/does feel like a reach. Do I assume HR will notice that I’m a potential fit for both? (In the past, I’ve had one company tell me I was overqualified for a role I’d applied for and ask if I was interested in interviewing for another opening at a higher level. At my current company, one guy we interviewed wasn’t quite the right fit for one position and we similarly suggested another to him that had become available after he applied. So I know those things happen and have been on both ends, but I don’t know how common that is and if I should assume HR will be on the same page.)

    I would not volunteer interest in the lower role. Be prepared with all your examples and stuff suited to the higher role. If they love you but feel you lack some experience, I think they would present the other role to you if it’s still open. I do think you undermine yourself otherwise. They think you’re qualified!

    Congrats on the interview and I agree w/ Kate. They’d likely mention the other position if they don’t think the higher-level is the right fit.

    We do that at my company.
