I am so crazy with work this week that it’s actually kept my mind off this just for today (thankfully!). Thank you all for your kind words and advice!

Except for you, JD. You can fuck right off. How’s that for zen?

Also, not that it matters to the larger point most of you are making, but my cousins themselves are quite liberal. My one cousin has been with her conservative boyfriend since they were like 20. I don’t know how she deals with the political differences. I guess they just avoid it? Who knows. We have a ton of other bigoted family members who were thankfully not there, but I’ve been subjected to their shitty viewpoints plenty of other times. So these comments were a straw-that-broke-the-camels-back kind of deal.

I am always truly fascinated when white people talk about undocumented workers and how they should be deported. The irony of it boggles my mind.

Europeans settled in the Americas without an invitation from the millions of Natives who where already living here. Aren’t they the original undocumented workers? AND I love how people conveniently forget (or don’t know) that during the Polk presidency, James Polk ‘decided’ to adjust the border of the U.S. and annexed 1/3 of Mexico. Making all of those families who had lived on that land for generations, illegal immigrants in their own country. By all rights, all of the southwestern parts of the U.S. belongs to Mexico, so they aren’t actually undocumented workers or illegal immigrants.

And I personally worked in a restaurant in college with undocumented workers. Honestly, they weren’t here sucking up welfare and food stamps like the Conservatives would have us believe, many of them worked 12-14 hour days in a shitty Mexican restaurant to send money back home to their families. Although, we were making pennies they still had taxes taken out of their checks.

Don’t forget we were only able to take the country because most of the native people were dead already from a plague.

And everything we did was on the backs of people from other countries we enslaved and brought here to work for free.

The plague brought by Europeans in infected goods and through forced sexual conquest of the native women.

So true, not only Africans but the importation of thousands of Asian men (but no women except for the ones forced into prostitution) so that they could build the railroads and work on the sugarcane, tobacco, and pineapple plantations.
