Let me be clear – my endorsement of a Honda Civic as a reliable vehicle is ABSOLUTELY NOT an endorsement to buy a new Honda Civic or any new car for that matter. Buying a vehicle new is absolutely a waste of a money and is only really worthwhile to people who really have enough money to toss around. Basically, if you have to think about if you can afford it, you can’t afford it.

Hmmm – we may not be the right audience to advise you. I would imagine that most posters here are North American (or perhaps a few Australians and Brits/Europeans) – by and large people that grew up with the expectation that we would leave home and would stake out indpendence on our own as adults.

If you are emeshed in a culture where that’s not the norm, I don’t know how valuable our advice is to you.

My knee jerk reaction was – you are 25, you have money at your disposal, move out and take whatever negative reactions your family has on the chin like the grown-up you are. If you still have money left over, sure, buy yourself that car.

But, if you are in a country and/or a culture where no one does that, where the expectation is that young adults stay at home until they marry and always defer to their elders, I mean, I don’t know what to tell you.

I’m out of my depth here.
