Ok, that’s very positive. I feel like you’re moving in a better direction. I forget, are you currently seeing someone for your depression?

I know & no not yet.. I stopped seeing a therapist because I somehow had this crazy idea that I could deal with it myself. But I can’t.. I’m worse than ever right now. I’m looking though.. Ugh..

Hey, good luck with performing! I am just now getting back into it after giving it up for awhile for a corporate life. Also, therapy is amazing. No shame in going back. I’ve stopped and started at different points in my life.

So if you’re in school, is there a counseling resource you can go through as a student?

Sarah, if you’re in college, your school should have some sort of wellness center where there ought to be therapists you can speak to. You can also contact the psych department and ask whether any of their PhD students are accepting “practice” clients whom you could work with for free. (I’m focusing on cheap/free because you’re young and a student and a waitress, but if you have the means to pay more, then I’d suggest going to http://www.psychologytoday.com, and click the tab that says “Find a Therapist” and enter your zipcode. You’ll get a list of therapists, ranging from licensed social workers to psychologists, in your area. You can specify insurance or speciality and I think you can even specify gender.) Good luck!

That’s the worst, isn’t it? When you think that you *should* be able to get through it by willing yourself not to be depressed or something, but obviously you can’t actually, but then you just feel like a failure for not being able to manage it.

Yay! I’m glad everyone is friends again. Name calling really bothers me. Especially ‘cunt’. That one makes me cringe every time.

I always loved acting too, but I never had the balls to pursue it as a career, since there’s such a low chance of actually being able to make a living that way. So I ended up in tech support instead and now every time I see a play I get a little sad that I’m not in it. What kind of acting are you hoping to pursue? Stage or screen?

I hope the acting works out for you Sarah. I was an actor in high school and college and loved being on stage. It’s a natural high you can’t get anywhere else. I wish you the best and hope you start feeling better

I second & third the College’s student resources for therapy.

Depression is super hard to deal with by yourself. Hopefully, acting will be the outlet to redirect your energy into while you heal.

I know for me, I need to constantly learn something to redirect my extra energy into. Last year, it was learning to bake from scratch. I learned how to bake bread, pizza crust, cakes, pies & pie crust, pretzels. It was pretty awesome. Now, I’m back on the fitness wagon so I’m not baking stuff every week.

This year, I’m restarting my sewing. I’d stopped about 2 years ago after I chunked up a bit, and wasn’t able to shake the weight. But this year, I’m getting back to it. <—Yay!

Anyone know how to quilt? I used to sew a lot, and did quilt a pillow in home ec ages ago.
