I’ve recently just got into a new relationship and I’ve lied about my age, I’m 18 and he’s 23, when we first started talking I told him I was 20. I regret telling him this now heavily as I now don’t know how to tell him, I did not lie to him in a hurtful way, I lied simply because I really liked him and because I’m 18, he would see me differently. Has anyone got advice on what I should do, I desperately need to tell him sooner rather than later…
It’s not that big a deal in my view. The longer you wait though the bigger the deal it will become. Tell your partner the truth, tell them why you were dishonest and ask for their forgiveness and understanding.
Yeah, you need to fess up sooner, rather than later, but this isn’t as big of a deal as if you’d been 16 or 17 and lied about being 20. And, even if he decides it’s a deal breaker, better to know now than invest more time into this and deal with the potential fallout of your “secret” coming out down the line, like, say for instance, your supposed next 21st birthday (if you’re in the states).
I have had people I’ve dated lie to me and it never ended well. The longer you let this go, the harder it will be to fix. The sooner you tell him, as well as your reasons for doing this, the better it will go. I hope it turns out well for you.
