I don’t have time to read that whole 67 page thread, did someone do the math as to how much this cost them? I had a Tivo many years ago and I remember it was a flat rate for each box plus a subscription service, if they charge a new subscription fee for each box then it could get really pricey.

If they deactivated the boxes then how did they still have the shows around to watch?

Also, recently I found myself wanting to re-watch a miniseries that aired in 2014 that I recorded, watched, and deleted back then. Only it turns out its not available on any of the streaming services, the only way to get it appears to be to pay $14.99 to purchase the digital video from Amazon.

I did read the whole thread and he wasn’t so much deactivating as adding more. A couple died here and there but they really were using 5 tivos plus additional hard drives by the end there. The ones that died he’d usually fix or get a refurbished one to replace it.March 13, 2019 at 3:39 am #836734
My cable company uses TIVO as their DVR and yesterday i received an email that the formatting is changing. Now it doesn’t make that bloop bloop noise when you hit buttons. Breaks my heart. I loved that noise.March 13, 2019 at 11:48 am #836970

Well thats it. This post was making me miss my old Tivo and thinking maybe when we cut cable we should get one. But if the bloop bloop is gone, I’m out.

Mine doesn’t but it’s weird as it isn’t full TIVO but when you hit guide or shows you’ve recorded it’s in TIVO. So no on that fun noise. I liked that one too. Husband said I probably am making too big a deal over the bloop bloop but I disagree. It’s essential.March 13, 2019 at 3:09 pm #837021
The cable provider I use has TiVo as their DVR service! So I still have and use it. I’d never heard of my cable provider before moving to my city, but they were my only option in the first building I lived in and I was delighted to realize they really use TiVo. It still has the same bloop-bloop sounds I remember from college, when DVRs were still a novelty and exactly one friend had one. She was, of course, my friend group’s savior because she was able to record The O.C. for us to watch together on Thursday nights.
