This whole Trump situation just gets worse and worse everyday

Six months ago I moved from California to Montana. Let me say WOW WHAT A CULTURE SHOCK. I was in a blue state bubble.

I had a hearty chuckle at all the people excited to see Obamacare repealed, because they use ACA and don’t know it’s the same thing. Republicans are responsible for the dumbing down of their constituents.
Also, NPR or PBS had a story about a couple in rural PA who voted for Trump purely because they were so sick of paying so much for health insurance. They just locked in at $900/month for their family of four…because they make $97,000/year!
I’m terrified of all the appointees. I’m scared everything is about to be privatized and we will be paying out of pocket for school, and god knows what else.

Yeah, all those ACA people that are gleefully gloating about how they are fine as they were never dumb enough to use or need Obamacare is amusing.

Sadly though, I feel America is loudly and publicly committing suicide in slow motion — and, somehow, nobody is bothering to actually intervene. Oh, well. Whatever. See you all at the funeral.

I’m not sure what happens after Trump (assuming there is an “after Trump” /jk – sort of). Either Republicans solidify their stranglehold on the government by denying or invalidating the majorities’ votes so as to insulate themselves from the fallout of a 100% GOP government or the shitshow is so massive and the backlash so explosive that it takes the entire GOP down with it.

I think it could honestly go either way. The pro-Trump/anti-Ryan GOP base isn’t going to be happy when they lose some or all of their healthcare coverage (because many coverage provisions apply to all insurance, not just ACA subsidied policies); their premiums go up or they’re dropped; their manufacturing jobs continue to slip away due to automation; the economy tanks because bipartisan economists agree that Trump’s plans are a disaster; they still need a college degree to get a decent job (which likely won’t exist in their hometown); their taxes don’t really go down that much; their kids still get hooked on meth or opioids and they cannot afford treatment; the rich get richer and they don’t; the “wall” doesn’t materialize or work; rural America isn’t revitalized; minorities, women and gays still exist; and those in blue states still fare better than them. Oh, and it’ll be their kids who get sent off to fight in the inevitable wars Trump & Co. start, too. It won’t be pretty and the GOP knows it, which is why I expect them to double down on eroding voting rights and the Constitution to hold onto power.

The question is how successful they will be. I’m encouraged that Obama appears to be making fighting for voting rights and defeating gerrymandering a key focus of his post-presidency years. This is so important.
However, I’m very alarmed at the attacks on credible press organizations that are even slightly negative to Trump, though. CNN is a lot of things, but I wouldn’t call it a “fake news” organization. Ditto the New York Times and Washington Post. The delegitimization of the actual real press and promotion of propoganda sites like Brietbart is so dangerous to democracy. Verify everything and find news sources you trust because Trump, his cronies and the GOP lie, misinform, and deflect without shame.

Trump gives me this feeling of dread all the time. I’m caught between a rock in a hard place – I want to stay active, but I get very depressed/anxious reading the news. I can feel my heart rate go up.

This sounds crazy you guys, but sometimes I wish I was a Trump supporter and liked him so I wouldn’t have this horrible feeling nagging at me. Does that make sense?

Trump will implode very soon, I suspect. Look, he clearly can’t take even the mildest of slings and arrows and will probably have a stroke when he truly comes under attack. Oh, well.

If the tide starts turning against Trump, the GOP will throw him out on his ass immediately. I have no doubt they would LOVE to have Pence as president. It just depends on when (or whether, I guess) his obviously being compromised, general unfitness and ineptitude outweighs the GOP’s need to latch onto his coattails to keep the quasi-support of his rabid fanbase.
