We all have to live with each other. I’m not sure every human who hasn’t been born in a prep-school oligarchy life complete with a full staff of personal assistants and estates all resent themselves and find no pleasure in life.
I’m not disagreeing that it would be ideal for most children to not ever be born in circumstances in which they won’t be able to fully thrive but there has never been any time or place where children are only allowed to be born to mentally and physically elite yuppies. There are a lot of train wreck narratives but people’s lives are generally more complicated and everybody finds another person’s life to be filled with drudgery and sometimes tedious chores.
The higher the level of education women receive, the less likely they are to have more kids than they can provide for and educate. Not everybody is cut out to go to college for the obligatory six to eight years required to gain enough respectability to breed and even if they do, there is no guarantee that they won’t have awful, smug offspring who benefit and perpetuate a scarcity-driven mindset.
Just saying.January 30, 2019 at 4:31 pm #827558
Trump can do no wrong it seems. Anybody else would have been removed long ago…January 31, 2019 at 11:08 pm #828529
Gosh, I hope Trump continues to undermine U.S intelligence Agencies so our beautiful southern border fence will keep us safe and protected.
I’ve probably found myself on a list or two.January 31, 2019 at 11:54 pm #828531
Keyblade, I am not saying only rich and educated should have children. But if someone can’t even feed their children (dirt poor), can’t even look after them (physically disabled), likely to cause harm (mentally ill, drug addicted), should they have a number of kids ?
Kids who are going to suffer, and likely to repeat the same pattern when they grow up.
It is not about the right to reproduction. It is more about the responsibility to children that people bring into the world.February 1, 2019 at 8:09 am #828550
@saneinca – you already know everything that is below. We have created a situation in which:
1. Our public schools don’t provide basic education on sex health and birth control
2. We restrict / eliminate access to birth control focusing on unrealistic abstinence only programs that don’t work.
Then people get upset when people who can’t afford to get pregnant – get pregnant. And then they make it impossible to take care of the kids on a limited budget.
3. We restrict access to prenatal care leading to high numbers of infant and mother mortality.
4. We have almost non-existent programs for child care so that parents can continue working.
5. We make accessing programs for food, healthcare and anything else difficult.
So really what all of this says is that women aren’t allowed to have sex because that makes them dirty dirty sluts and if they are having sex and get pregnant, they must have and raise that child because that’s what they deserve. And if it keeps them poor and continues the cycle, they shoulda kept their legs shut.
That’s why some people make allowances for rape or incest – because they they don’t deserve a second punishment. The rape was punishment enough.February 1, 2019 at 8:31 am #828554
A relatively affluent lady like myself, who is educated and in a stable relationship and could afford kids, can also afford NOT to have them. I have insurance through work that gives me free pills, and I can pay $20 for an office visit. I could buy condoms as an alternative. I could pay for an abortion. Those are luxuries.February 1, 2019 at 8:37 am #828555
And that is why I don’t scream at LWs from a position of privilege to stop having kids, use birth control, get their tubes tied.February 1, 2019 at 11:22 am #828584
Oh please. Condoms aren’t THAT fucking expensive. I grow tired of people giving stupidity a pass. Which America seems to do way ti much lately. From Trump to Ariana Grande and her hilariously dimwitted Japanese BBQ tattoo — EVERYBODY is just hilariously fucking stupid today. And yet constantly given a pass.February 1, 2019 at 11:33 am #828586
Mark you’re totally right and regular use of condoms would be an improvement over non-use. But they break. And people are manipulative and stupid. Mostly stupid.February 1, 2019 at 11:35 am #828588
Oh and remember, that abstinence programs teach that condoms are extremely risk AND most teens who follow an abstinence program are either too embarrassed to buy them (because people might know!) or are of the opinion that having condoms = going to have sex so they often get knocked up because “things just happened!” because … stupid.February 1, 2019 at 11:36 am #828589
They rarely break. I think I have one break in decades of hard fucking.February 1, 2019 at 3:14 pm #828616
I’ve had two break. And of course, as a well-education, middle class white woman I had the means and knowledge necessary to purchase PlanB. There are so many people out there who don’t have those same luxuries. Or are misinformed because most of society prefers anything related to women’s reproductive health be left in the dark.
