Thank you, thank you, thank you, Georgia — for electing two new senators. Without that, we’d be really screwed.January 6, 2021 at 8:00 pm #995410CopaParticipant
I was doing dry January. Now I am drinking vodka.
But yes, Georgia!January 7, 2021 at 7:04 am #995921LisforLeslieGuest
@BGM – there’s video of the police just clearing a path for the terrorists to move flimsy gates and storm the building.
This was entirely predictable because it was planned on known sites. A lot of people will likely lose their jobs (deservedly) and the congress people who encouraged all of this will suffer no consequences unless Pelosi and Schumer finally find their ovaries and censure Hawley, Cruz and the like for sedition.
Fuck, even Loeffler was like “Folks, I can’t be a part of this shit and I happily take pictures with White Nationalists.”
And only 50 or so people were actually arrested – which is an absolute fucking joke. They should have had the National Guard and wagon after wagon outside.January 7, 2021 at 8:44 am #995997ktfranParticipant
After a few years of not really reading anything on Facebook, I opened yesterday and today to read what the other side said about the attack on the Capitol. My “other side” is mostly coming from family and people I knew while living in Florida and my hometown… and… they don’t think anything was wrong with what happened yesterday. They think it’s voices wanting to be heard. They don’t understand why there wasn’t more security. And they don’t believe the news being reported. One asshole even said you can’t really tell if the terrorist in Pelosi’s office really has a gun. It’s too blurry. OMFG.
That’s what we’re dealing with. And that’s what we’ll continue to deal with.
It’s fucking insane. But not surprising.

Personally I’ve never been more embarrassed to be a Missourian – and that says a lot because we fuck up a lot. But I take comfort in the fact that Josh Hawley doesn’t really even live here. He uses his sister’s address as his voting location. But he also chose to break the residency rules when he was attorney general so apparently the rules don’t apply to white guys like Josh Hawley.January 7, 2021 at 10:03 am #996058SaraGuest
I hope yesterday was a wake up call to at least some of the 70m who voted for him.
Also sad that these events not only happened, but overshadowed GA’s historic runoff results.January 7, 2021 at 10:22 am #996077BittergaymarkGuest
LisforLeslie: Yeah… I saw that video. It’s all very… well… why tip toe around it? It’s all VERY suspicious… Yesterday’s lack of any real security was so… convenient. Honestly? I don’t quite know what to make of it.
Veritek33: Somebody from your state should REALLY look into Hawley. Lying about your residency is illegal.
“The Constitution requires that Members of the House be at least 25 years old, have been a U.S. citizen for at least seven years, and live in the state they represent (though not necessarily the same district). And Article VI, clause 3 requires that all Members take an oath to support the Constitution before they exercise the duties of their office.”
If Pelosi has any guts —- newsflash, she doesn’t —- she’d censure Hawley. But as a clueless, weak leader… she won’t.
Instead… Everybody will gloss over this. And that angers me greatly. It should enrage everybody. It should be a straw that breaks the camel’s back.
But no. In the end… it is all a lot of sound and fury. Signifying? Nothing.January 7, 2021 at 11:45 am #996143LisforLeslieGuest
@BGM – I completely agree. The mayor put the NG in place but the Senate is Federal – not city. I find it very disturbing and similar to the reports that Biden’s security detail had to be changed up when they were worried some were Cheeto loyalists who wouldn’t do their damn jobs.
Whether Pelosi and Schumer will even take symbolic action against the 174 traitors – we’ll see. I doubt it. But I would love to see them all hauled out and kicked to the curb. And if that does happen they should lose all future benefits like their health plans and federal retirement plans.
Trump should be impeached and prevented from ever holding federal office again. I don’t give a shit if he’s the governor of a flyover state or Florida. If they let him win – they deserve whatever they get.
The 50 arrested should have their lives upended, their faces printed on every paper with the word TERRORIST above it and be held responsible for the costs of the damage to the building. Almost every single one would likely give up their friends if they thought they could reduce their sentence or share of the damages.January 7, 2021 at 4:57 pm #996391AngeGuest
It doesn’t surprise me at all they got a free ride in. As Rage Against the Machine said:
Some of those that work forces
Are the same that burn crosses
Except I think it’s more than some, I think it’s a statistically significant amount.January 7, 2021 at 9:28 pm #996597BittergaymarkGuest
They certainly did seem to open the gates all too easily… and willingly.January 8, 2021 at 7:21 am #996976LisforLeslieGuest
Inside the Capitol some cops posed for selfies with the terrorists.

I listen to the podcast The Daily most mornings while I walk my dog. They also mentioned in today’s episode that police officers inside the Capitol were giving directions, which is (in part) how they managed to find offices like Pelosi’s. WTF?
