I’ve heard that, too. Confirms both a long held theory and justifies an ugly nickname.

So he is impeached from the news we are getting in the uk- congratulations.January 13, 2021 at 4:57 pm #1003088AngeGuest
My understanding is that now the senate has to vote and theirs is the one that could prevent him from ever seeking office again. What are the odds of that happening?January 13, 2021 at 6:20 pm #1003156
The odds are not that bad, Ange. Mitch McConnell said he’s not calling the senate back to vote to convict (they’re on break), so it will happen after Biden comes in and Democrats have the senate majority. And McConnell has signaled that he’s pissed as shit at Trump and may vote to convict, to purge him from the Republican Party. In which case, that will happen. And then no $200k pension, no $1m travel budget, no secret service, no ever running for office again.January 13, 2021 at 6:21 pm #1003158
The thing that is so sickening is that this looks like an inside job. QAnon freak shows got themselves elected to Congress, and they then coordinated with the rioters, gave them a reconnaissance tour the day before, etc.January 13, 2021 at 6:56 pm #1003187ele4phantGuest
So, while I definitely think some of the capitol police were aligned ideologically to the rioters and opened the doors and let people just wander on in, I do think if there was someone on the inside enabling this, I think we would’ve had a very different day. Many lawmakers would’ve been killed.
The whole thing to me read as pretty chaotic and haphazard. It was a close call, but I don’t think there was really any grand planning going on. An angry crowd was met by a police force that sympathized and didn’t’ really try that hard to shut them down.
They got in, and most of them were just gobsmacked and wandered around.
A few very clearly had very scary intentions, but I think they were operating on their own, and their failure speaks to the fact the didn’t have advance cooperation from the inside.January 13, 2021 at 7:00 pm #1003190January 13, 2021 at 7:15 pm #1003205
They weren’t gobsmacked. They made it to Nancy Pelosi’s office and James Clyburn’s unmarked office in *minutes*, and they are very difficult to find, in a maze like situation. They were within a hairsbreadth of entering the chamber with the elected officials *in there.* What we saw on TV was absolutely not the true situation. Details are coming out soon. The FBI told us we’re going to be shocked. Are you watching news?
“ their failure speaks to the fact the didn’t have advance cooperation from the inside.”
I think it speaks to the extremely fast action of the secret service or whoever got the lawmakers the fuck into the tunnels and to a safe location. Because it was CLOSE. They were there to kill. We’re lucky they found no one there to kill.

The disabling of the panic buttons is extremely alarming. That NC rep posing with the white supremacists before giving them a “tour” (which, by the way, they are closed for tours thanks to COVID) is alarming. I am very alarmed.January 13, 2021 at 7:30 pm #1003221
This wasn’t a riot, it was an assassination attempt.January 13, 2021 at 7:36 pm #1003227
Right, the Capitol has been closed to the public since March but these people knew exactly where they were going.
Also, how about that police officer, Eugene Goodman, who, with quick thinking and extreme bravery, lured them away from the unguarded chamber.
I think the people we saw on TV looking like idiots were the later people in there, who didn’t have all the info that the others had who got in there first. We are going to find out a lot more.January 13, 2021 at 7:57 pm #1003244
I hope you’re right that we find out more. There is so much awfulness happening *everywhere* that it’s easy for the public to move on to the next horrific thing. There need to be charges against those who leaked information. Those who participated need to be expelled. If there are no consequences, we’re just going to be here again in 4, 8 or 12 years.
History tells me they won’t, but I’d love to be wrong about this. I didn’t think Dems could pull off a Georgia win though, so who knows?
