‘Possum’ is used as an endearment in Australia, hence Dame Edna’s usual greeting of ‘hello Possums!’ but then again our possums are much cuter so it’s a lot more of a compliment lol.

Kate, I wish you’d be a little kinder to commenters. I’ve been following Wendy since TheFrisky days, and while there’s been times I’ve felt Wendy has been a little harsh, that was always the exception and not the rule. But at the end of the day, it’s also her site and she puts a lot of work into it and it’s understandable that criticism can get under her skin sometimes. But you’re regularly so snarky with people and it’s unnecessary. This thread is a good example. I’m sure you’ll just say you don’t care, but, it does impact my desire to comment on this site.

It’s not that I don’t care, but I don’t really agree that I’m not kind. Fair enough for you to express your opinion though.

Edit: well, no, I don’t really care. I don’t mean to dismiss your feelings, because they are valid, but I’m here to 1) give advice where I can, and 2) keep trolls off the forums. I give good advice. I keep trolls off the forums. You can’t please everyone.

Well, I appreciate your response. I do agree with you on a lot of things, just not always with your approach…but, granted, tone can be hard to decipher on the Internet.

Yeah, I think it’s my tone online. But look, I’m from MA, and we are kind of abrupt. I also don’t know how much I can or want to try to adjust my tone or voice or whatever to cater to different people, especially at this point in time.

Things I don’t think you will see me doing if you think about it are calling people names, judging them for things they can’t help, or talking down to them from a place of privilege. I try not to do any of those.

I would agree you don’t do any of those things.

For what it’s worth, I’ve found your responses to me to be respectful and I appreciate that.

Thank you. And I’m glad that you have commented. I have no idea who you are, though, don’t worry.

I think Kate and Wendy do a lot more work on keeping out trolls that most forums do. I think having transparency where Kate indicates a person’s location and whether they are the same person as another commenter or not helps with my confidence that most posts are real.

Posting on the internet comes with the acceptance that you may read or comment on something that isn’t real. There’s no way around that. And I think there are a LOT more inaccurate/not real things on the internet that are much more impactful to our society than people making fake posts asking for advice. When I try to weigh someone asking for advice about a fake boyfriend with people causing measles outbreaks or influencing elections, then yeah, I don’t care much about someone who posts about their boyfriend 5 times.

And real life is like this too. I think there are probably a lot more people lying to your face than you’d think. Work drama, so I’m in a mood, but it’s true.

@kate – the abruptness of MA and other east coast states is no joke. I’m in the midwest, and at my work we have special customer service reps trained to deal with our east coast accounts.

It’s a totally different world customer service wise – no chit chat, don’t expect any niceties, it’s not that they hate you or that they are even actually mad at you, they just want their business done.

Granted, this probably says just as much about the sensitive nature of Minnesotans.

I’ve worked with a lot of clients in the Midwest, and those in MN and WI are SOOO nice, and I always make more of an effort to chitchat and build rapport than I might with like NJ clients.

Those little exchanges really do mean a lot to us here.
