To my understanding in the world of college admissions, money and connections still talk. They (Huffman and her husband) are two wealthy famous people, they could probably get their kid in any number of fine institutions no matter what their kid’s test scores were.
I don’t know why anyone is surprised at this. The rich have always used resources and influence to get what they want. At least one girl at Georgetown was in on the scam. We’ll see if she gets expelled.
The only thing that surprises me is that the middle man didn’t have more trusted proctors around the country. The coaches, a tennis coach at Yale is never going to make much. A bribe is your best way to retire without worry.
Huffman and Laughlin are going to simply get their PR people to say “I only wanted the best for my child. I went about it the wrong way, but I made mistakes as a result.” then they’ll contribute to a scholarship fund and lay low.
