Updates: “Cold Feet Bride” Responds

It’s time again for “Dear Wendy Updates,” a feature where people I’ve given advice to in the past let us know whether they followed the advice and how they’re doing now. Today, we hear from “Cold Feet Bride” whose letter appeared in a shortcuts column last July. Her wedding was a month away and she was having serious second thoughts. She didn’t like that he always walked two steps ahead of her and she didn’t like how attached he was to his overbearing family. I told her to postpone or cancel the wedding. Keep reading to see whether she took my advice.

I DID take your advice. You told me that I was young and was having way too many problems with him to walk into a marriage. I stepped back a week before the wedding, and it was the best decision I ever made. I later found out they (he and his family) were plotting to get me to live with all of them, including my crazy sister-in-law and her four children, in one small house. I am glad I took your advice. I would not want to be with a man who was still under the rule of his parents – despite his age. Thanks again! You’re great.

  I can’t even imagine how hard it would be to end a relationship so close to the wedding! It can be hard enough without that kind of pressure!
  
  That said, good for you, LW! You did what was right for you in a position where I think many people have gone ahead with the wedding for all the wrong reasons. I’m glad you seem happy with the choice, too!
