Updates: “Deployment Bound”

It’s time again for “Dear Wendy Updates,” a feature where people I’ve given advice to in the past let us know whether they followed the advice and how they’re doing today. After the jump, we hear from “Deployment Bound” who met an amazing guy but was leery of starting something with him because he was scheduled to leave for a year-long deployment in a dangerous combat zone in a couple of months. “I am wary of having a relationship with him right now, but I don’t want to miss out on something amazing.” After the jump, find out whether you decided to pursue the amazing guy or not.

First, thanks so much for posting my letter, and for the great advice. You were absolutely spot on! I did end up backing off, and we did actually end up discussing where we were at in terms of feelings for each other. After the initial giddiness of meeting someone great wore off, it turned out we were super compatible, although we decided to remain just friends. We’ve kept in close contact since his deployment, and he is actually developing a crush on a girl he met during training – and I think they’re great together! I recently started seeing someone as well. Thanks so much for your advice, and for the advice from your readers! Thanks to all of you, I avoided what could have been some serious heartache and ended up with an awesome friend!

Glad to hear you got a great friend and you managed to avoid heartache!

If you’re someone I’ve given advice to in the past, I’d love to hear from you, too. Email me at wendy@dearwendy.com with a link to the original post, and let me know whether you followed the advice and how you’re doing now.

Wow, this is a very level headed update. I am impressed with your attitude about the new girl in his life especially. You sound like something he needs in his life right now — a really great friend! 🙂

  2. Great update! So glad you avoided the drama and made a genuine friend too.
