Updates: “Former Student” Responds

It’s time again for “Dear Wendy Updates,” a feature where people I’ve given advice to in the past let us know whether they followed the advice and how they’re doing now. Today, we hear from “Former Student,” a recent college grad who had been hanging out with a former high school teacher and wondered if he wanted to be more than friends with her. “My mom thinks he wants to date me, [but] I can’t help but think it’s weird that a normal, sane, good guy in his 30s would have any interest in my unemployed self.” I told her it actually wasn’t all that weird for a hetero guy in his 30s to have interest of some sort in a 22-year-old woman. Keep reading to see if she’s still hanging with her former teacher.

Long story short: you were all right; he was interested in me and wanted to date me, but I had no interest in that. Also, I got a job which upped my self-esteem so that I no longer needed validation, which made it much easier to say “I’m flattered really, but I’m not interested.”

Shocker.

I want the long story long not short!!! Doesn’t the LW understand my need for ALLL the details?

    1. Obviously not… how terribly inconsiderate of the LW.
