Updates: “Moved in Too Soon” and “Loves a Man in Uniform” Respond

It’s time again for “Dear Wendy Updates,” a feature where people I’ve given advice to in the past let us know whether they followed the advice and how they’re doing now. Today, we hear from two LWs whose letters ran in the same shortcuts column back in March. The first, “Moved in Too Soon” said that she was crying all the time since moving in with her boyfriend and wanted to move back home but worried it would cause more problems in their relationship. Keep reading to get her update, as well as hear from “Loves and Man in Uniform” who wondered if things would actually work out with her current non-uniform-wearing boyfriend since she loves military men so much.

From “Moved in Too Soon”:

Since I wrote, my boyfriend and I broke up. We realized we wanted different things and I am now facing the challenges that single life brings. I’ve just turned 20 so I’m having fun with life and am going traveling soon. Thank you for your advice.

Enjoy your travels and being single and 20!!

From “Loves a Man in Uniform”:

Actually, Mandy, I’m happy and I’ll be getting engaged soon. I think what I was thinking about is stupid cause my boyfriend is such a great guy and I love him so I removed all those stupid ideas from my head!

It’s Wendy, actually.

Stop trying to make pre-engaged happen. It’s not happening.

      3. lets_be_honest says:

        I hate pre-engaged too.

Ugh have you not seen mean girls? I need you to get my jokes and tell me how funny I am.

I’ve only seen parts of it. Peter says I’m going to end up like the mom in the juicy sweats. Guessing that’s an insult.

      2. Gah, I love this tumblr.

  2. “It’s Wendy, actually.” <– love this comment

LW2, you’re young and it shows. Try growing up before you get married, it will work out better for you.

  4. ele4phant says:

Umm LW 2, did Wendy tell you to break up with your boyfriend? I don’t think she did.

    1. I’m wondering if Wendy wrote requesting an update by asking something like “are you still preoccupied with military men?”, which prompted the ACTUALLY…

      …or…lw is just nuts

      1. She had a bunch of stupid ideas removed from her head… so… who knows what else.

      2. landygirl says:

Even she admits in the first letter “I dunno why I’m that stupid. — Loves a Man in Uniform”

I don’t know why she’s that stupid either.

      3. ele4phant says:

        Hmm that would make sense

  5. Sunshine Brite says:

    BHAHAHAHAHAHAHA… Mandy.

  6. I love when people say “I’ll be getting engaged soon”. We’ll see about that one…

haha I’m so cautious about the engagement talk! Like we discuss getting engaged by the end of the year but whenever I tell other people it’s like “we’re hoping” or “if we get engaged”. I always find when people are super sure about it and shopping for the wedding dress before the engagement they invariably break up.

      1. i do too! i always use the “if”- and for everything. “if i ever have a baby”, “if we get married”, “if we buy a house”, “if i move”, whatever. i dont like talking in definities until things are, well, definite. i feel like its a jinx in a way, you know?

  7. landygirl says:

Oh Mandy, well you came and you gave without taking, but I sent you away, oh Mandy.

    1. I was going to go with…
      Mandy, there’s a minister handy
And it sure would be dandy
If we let him make a fee…

      (Too old?)

      1. Seriously, my favorite movie of all time is White Christmas and that song is in there 🙂

      2. That’s where I know it from 🙂 I super love White Christmas, I watch it every year.

      3. landygirl says:

I have never heard that one before! I guess I’ll have to watch White Christmas again!

  8. Ooh, shortcuts updates are right up there with the shortcuts themselves!

      1. I love you Addie Pray. Instead of being the next COO of Facebook, could you be my bouncer for when I do stand-up? That means that when people try to sneak past here on the sidewalk out there, you grab them and toss them into the audience.

How do you send an email to wendy@dearwendy.com and not make the massive mental leap required to conclude that you are writing to a person named Wendy? Can you not spot a clue if it doesn’t have a blue paw print on it? Facepalm!

    1. lets_be_honest says:

Thumbs up for the blue’s clues reference! Well done.

      1. Avatar photo beelzebarb says:

        Why thank you 🙂

    2. Maybe it was an iPhone typo or something?

      1. No, I don’t think so. Her whole response had like a bitter, sarcastic, spiteful tone to it. Like she did not appreciate what Wendy’s advice was to the letter (I didn’t read the original letter or response). So she purposely made a mistake on Wendy’s name. Or she really is that clueless. …idk….agh the shortcuts lol.
