Updates: “Plus 1 OK?” Responds

It’s time again for “Dear Wendy Updates,” a feature where people I’ve given advice to in the past let us know whether they followed the advice and how they’re doing now. Today we hear from “Plus 1 OK?” who lives abroad and was planning a trip back to the states with her boyfriend that coincided with her cousin’s wedding. She was invited to the wedding, but her boyfriend was not. “I’d feel awful making my boyfriend go through [the drive to the wedding] after spending about 15 hours traveling across the world to just hang out in a hotel while I go to the wedding. Would it be absolutely awful to ask for a plus one in this situation?” she asked. Keep reading to see whether got the plus 1 she wanted.

During wedding week I had asked if it would be ok if I could ask my cousin for a plus one to her wedding, and I have an update. My cousin and I have been keeping in touch over Facebook messenger every so often. In July she asked about my upcoming vacations, and I mentioned that I would be visiting home in October and that I’d be bringing my boyfriend. I let her know that our visit would overlap with her wedding, and her response was “Oh wow! That worked out great. I can’t wait to see you and meet him 🙂 :)” The invitations have come out, and my boyfriend is invited, so it worked out well. So, in one month we’ll be dancing at the wedding while my family gets a chance to meet the guy I’ll be moving to South Carolina with in about four months.

Great! Have so much fun!

  1. I wish I was moving to South Carolina. I loved it there.

  2. Monkeys mommy says:

Oh, OP… I’m from South Carolina (now living in Florida). I wouldn’t recommend that move, depending on where you are coming from and where in SC you are moving to!!!
