That is such bs, copa. Hopefully they do change the policy sooner than later now that this came up.

Happy Valentine’s Day! This used to be the dating thread so thought it would be appropriate.

I’m definitely taking the interview as a learning experience and I know I might not get the job. However it is like I have one foot in and one foot out and it’s hard to keep signing up for and going to events as if nothing is happening.

Happy belated ktfran! Sorry about your friend. Some people have no shame.

    That sounds so fun @Rangerchic!!

I went on an Alaskan cruise with my family when I was in high school. I think I generally had a good time but it must be different now.

We also don’t have travel plans this year. Last year was a big travel year with Europe in the spring and Hong Kong in the fall. I’d like to go to New Orleans or New York.

It has been weird post COVID and sickness. We are in the office. Mainly like pre COVID if I had a sore throat I’d still come in. During COVID I wouldn’t. Now, I do. I don’t mask (and nobody else does) but I probably should. I do wish we could go back a bit and have people respect when you are sick.

I haven’t really written in this thread about my work stuff. I’ve been at the same job for eight years. Over the last four years I’ve known it’s not where I want to be. I finally applied for a job for the first time. I’ve been selected for an interview. I am happy but also freaking out a bit. It is a 40 min drive against traffic which is not insignificant. My commute is 20 min right now. I also need to find out more about the job.

Also my husband and I are trying to start a family. I know you’re not supposed to make too many changes at once. But I don’t want to stop career/family for either. Anyway we will see where this all goes..!

Hope all who are feeling under the weather get well soon. FWIW my dad and brother got the booster, I think the XBB, and they both still got COVID, my brother in December and my dad just now. It was both their first time. I’m hoping the vaccines helped a bit. I also got a cough/cold this past week. An expired COVID test said I was negative.

My family has recommended using a neti pot or saline rinse. I just started last night. Not sure if I have the benefits yet but people like it.

We don’t meal plan. I’m not sure if I could do a plan for all days of the week. I’d like to get some more meals in the freezer for rotation. I totally agree about accounting for leftovers, copa!

Generally we shop what’s on sale in the flyer and that kind of dictates what we make, particularly vegetables. In the summer we’d go to the farmers market and get inspired by what’s there. We buy meat on sale and freeze it. On Friday we try to start thawing one meat and we make one meal on Sunday which might last Monday or Tuesday. Wednesday we might do a pasta. By Friday we do chicken fingers or fish sticks in the air fryer. I realize that’s processed but it’s more economical than eating out.

I’d like to incorporate more plant based food in our diet? Like beans. My husband has Crohn’s so fibrous stuff is not awesome but I think if it’s cooked enough it’s ok.

That’s really crazy/horrible, Kate. My coworkers comment a lot about their size, even when they are thin. It does make me feel self conscious that they are also judging me, but I can’t control that.

Hope you continue to recover LisforLeslie. My brother who is a pulmonologist got it in November for the first time.

I don’t usually make resolutions because I often don’t achieve them and then I feel bad. Gretchen Rubin author/podcaster does a 24 in 24 review which has its appeals. My husband and I did do a 2023 house goals and we surprisingly achieved a number of them (eg get the fence between us and our neighbour fixed). I know my husband wants to get the bathroom renovated. The bathroom is definitely fine but it could be updated.

I’ve tried charging my phone away from bed. I stopped that but it would be good to revive that one. I like to listen to sleeping podcasts if I wake up on the middle of the night so I wasn’t sure what to do with that but I took an old phone and deleted all the apps possible except Spotify so I’m going to give that a try. I can’t delete Safari though.

My biggest vice is Reddit. I do set a limit but I don’t really follow it.

My mom is into healing energy. It’s not quite like Reiki but a similar modality. I’ve tried it a little. It’s ok but at times it can be a little unnerving on what my mom says.

Merry Christmas everyone! We hosted my side of the family but my mom still made so much food. We did a prime rib. Used Kenji Lopez Alt’s reverse sear method. Highly recommend. Mom brought ham, smoked salmon, and sides. My sister brought a side and dessert. My mom said that she was relieved from decorating and clean up so she was ok making/bringing so much.

It was nice decorating. We used a lot of our glassware, dishware and cutlery from our wedding registry. I know cash is most useful but I really don’t regret having a registry.

We will be going to my husband’s family on the 27th.

My husband and I splurged on presents this year. I got him a fancy meat thermometer and he got me a sauté pan. I guess we like cooking haha.

I got some I think useful stocking stuffer like presents for people: chain mail cleaner for cast iron, stainless steel “soap” stone, cake tester, wine pump/stopper. I also made my dad a “priceless” chip and dip bowl from pottery haha.

My siblings and I got our dad some art supplies and an instructional book on drawing.

I got my niece a stepping stone she can paint, bake and then put in the garden. For my nephew I got him a sensory bin. I actually got them each a 18” Squishmallow from Costco. They actually wanted that from Santa so I passed that on to my sister. They brought their Squishmallows to our place today and it was really sweet.

At one point I did think AirPods were kind of AH, like people who look like they’re talking to themselves but are actually on a call. But nah I got a pair last year and I love them.

I saw a Tik Tok that marketers are pushing skincare products because it’s not socially acceptable to push weight loss. So they have to market something else to make women feel like they have to do something. I mean sunscreen is important and nothing wrong with skincare but I think she made a good point.

I remember the girls who had $100 Lululemon yoga pants in high school. Fun times.
