Valentine’s Day is just over two weeks away and while some of us may think it’s a silly “holiday” unworthy of acknowledgment, let alone celebration, I say it’s a wonderful excuse to share some tokens of love and affection with the people you care about. Whether you’re shopping for a significant other, a family member, a best friend — particularly one who could use a little middle-of-winter-pick-me-up — or yourself, here are some a few Valentine’s Day gift ideas for women in your life (check back tomorrow for a gift guide for men).
Echo Design Women’s Touch Ruched Gloves
I bought these as a belated Christmas gift for myself (I got them in turquoise) and I love them. They’re warm without feeling bulky, stylish, and totally practical if you’re like I am and always pulling out your iPhone for one thing or another — texting, checking the time, Google mapping the nearest donut shop. Give them to your sugar dumpling — or yourself — so she’ll be better able to stay in touch and not freeze her fingers.
Fruit Punch Mixed Leather Bracelet for Women
If you’d like to stick with a pink theme but want to avoid anything too girly-girly, this leather bracelet is a lovely way to nod at the sweetness of Valentine’s Day while still keeping things a little edgy. And the great thing about a bracelet like this is that it begs to be stacked with other bracelets, which guarantees you gifts ideas for the next four or five special occasions.
Sweetheart Ring
Forget about wearing your heart on your sleeve; it’s so much cuter to wear it on your finger. (You can join Fab.com here to purchase this ring or any of their other great Valentine’s Day gifts, some of which are NSFW.) I also like this ring, this ring, and this ring.
L’Artisan L’eau D’Ambre Perfume
Ages ago, I worked in a flower shop, just feet away from the perfume counters of Saks. Every day, I would spray myself with L’Artisan perfume. I was too poor at the time to afford a bottle of my own, but years later Drew bought me one for Valentine’s Day. I still have half a bottle left, but to this day, if I pass through a cosmetics section of a fancy mall, I have to go find the L’Artisan fragrances and spray myself with one. They are at once sweet, seductive, and subtle enough not to suffocate everyone in the vicinity.
Mini Exotic Chocolate Bar Library from Vosges
There’s chocolate and then there’s Vosges chocolate, the former being perfectly nice and the latter being basically an out-of-body experience. I’m a fan of their truffles, for sure, and would never ever kick them out of bed, but I like how you get a little more bang for your buck with the chocolate bar collection, like this one, which includes: Black Pearl, Red Fire, Naga, Amalfi, Barcelona, Woolloomooloo, Oaxaca, Bapchi’s Caramel Toffee and Milk Chocolate Bacon Bars. Yes, please.
Sexy Lace-Up Stockings
I have similar stockings that I wore to a Christmas party (photo here) and got so many compliments on them. The pair I own is sold out, but these are very similar. Super sexy without being trashy (not that there’s anything wrong with trashy now and then…).
Isla Vibrator
It’s sleek, it’s waterproof, it’s fully rechargeable for up to four hours, and it has a handle. Enough said.
Skull Soap (in a heart-shaped box)
Sure, if you want to go the bath-and-body route, you could go for something more traditional like this, or even this, which are both great, but, dudes, this collection of skull soaps comes in a heart-shaped box.
QSW Nouveau Deco Dress
Technically a dress-dress, this silky slip of a thing seems more like a nightie to me, or something you might wear around the house instead of yoga pants or an oversized t-shirt when you were feeling elegant. The great thing about it though is that it IS actually a dress, so you could always just throw on some tights, boots and a cardigan and head out into the wild in your silky nightie and no one would be the wiser. Isn’t it pretty?? [via Outblush]
Modcloth has some super cute Valentine’s Day gift ideas, like this, this, and I love this.
Stemless champagne flutes
Champagne is a lovely gift — one of the best, if you ask me — but if a woman is anything like I am, she’s always a few flutes short of a full deck, you know? Champagne glasses are just so dainty and easy to knock over and break, but the stemless flutes are so pretty and just a wee bit easier to hold after a few too many sips of the bubbly. I like these Libbey glasses, and they’re a steal at over 50% off.

kerrycontrary January 30, 2013, 1:37 pm

ktfran January 30, 2013, 2:22 pm
I might buy that for myself.
kerrycontrary January 30, 2013, 2:27 pm
same. I hate spending that much on shipping…but I don’t live in chicago so I can’t go and get some. My brother lives in chicago and its literally the best chocolate I’ve ever had.
MaterialsGirl January 30, 2013, 4:01 pm
well how much is shipping? we could always priority mail it over if its cheaper..
lets_be_honest January 30, 2013, 4:20 pm
Gonna have to try this stuff!
Aya January 30, 2013, 6:39 pm
Trader Joe’s actually carries this under their house brand. Since your in NOVA you could just go there rather than paying for shipping.
Kerrycontrary January 30, 2013, 7:02 pm
WHAT!? omgz

I just bought the skull soaps for my husband. They are so cool!
bittergaymark January 30, 2013, 2:07 pm
The stockings are great… The skulls are cute, but a box of skulls for Valentine’s Day? Really? I dunno, maybe if the relationship is over and you simply wanna finally tell her that — Yes, the romance IS dead…
Wendy January 30, 2013, 2:15 pm
A HEART-SHAPED box, Mark. Heart-shaped.
Kate B. January 30, 2013, 3:37 pm
If you have a goth girl, she’ll love it. The rest of that Etsy shop is cool, too. You can never have too many skulls.
Taylor January 30, 2013, 4:19 pm
Also good for people who like Day of the Dead stuff! We had little skeleton cake toppers at our (not-goth) wedding =)
bittergaymark January 30, 2013, 2:25 pm
I know, I know, but you open it up and…. DEATH… Eh, it could be just me — as skulls freak me out. 🙂

I don’t want any gifts, it’s just one more thing that I have to find a place for. I need to start getting rid of things.
theattack January 30, 2013, 5:12 pm
That’s why edible gifts are so wonderful. Except of course, you still end up having to find a place for those, and unfortunately, that place is your waistline.

That dress is adorable. Normally I buy my own valentines day gift from Ethan – who says romance is dead? Although one year (I think maybe our 2nd or 3rd together) I did cry about him not getting me flowers – actually it was even worse than that – I cried in the morning because I didn’t THINK he was going to get me flowers that night. I can’t remember what was wrong with me that day but I remember being a mess. So now I just take all the stress out of it and let him know what I bought myself – and then kiss him for thinking of me.

I love that ring!!!! I hate having tiny fingers. I can never buy rings unless they’re nice enough that I can get them resized. I would be buying myself that ring right now if they sold it in my size. -sigh-
This is my favorite gift guide of yours yet, Wendy! I’m really looking forward to your men’s gift guide tomorrow. I just finally ordered my fiance his engagement sword yesterday even though our engagement is almost over now. That can’t count as his Valentine’s Day present though. If I buy myself those stockings, can that count as his present? haha just kidding…. kind of…
Moneypenny January 30, 2013, 5:50 pm
What is an engagement sword?? I’ve never heard of that.
theattack January 31, 2013, 9:15 am
He bought me a ring, so I bought him a sword. It’s my attempt at equalizing some old gendered traditions for him. We’re going to cut the cake with it at our wedding too.
GatorGirl January 31, 2013, 9:18 am
This is awesome.

Ooh, bath products are ALWAYS a win for me. May I also suggest any of the pamper-y products from Lush? Namely, bath bombs and melts, massage bars, bubble bars, or any of the scrubs (Ocean Salt is my favorite).
I bought my best friend a few of these for Christmas as a “Please treat yourself to some relaxation” gift – she’d been going through hell. She seemed rather unenthused when she opened them…but then I got a text a few weeks later telling me she finally got why I got her an entire stock of bath stuff and that she’s never enjoyed a bubble bath so much. Also, for girlfriends and wives? The “Sex Bomb” bath bomb lives up to the name.
CurlyQue January 31, 2013, 2:26 pm
I’ve been considering getting one or more of their massage bars but not sure which one(s) to get. Any suggestions? They seem kind of pricy and not sure how long one lasts…

We have an early morning flight that day to a Florida vacation. I bought her a nice diamond and gold necklace to give her after the inflight meal. Think she’ll like it?
jlyfsh January 30, 2013, 6:46 pm
Aww I’m sure she will! Hope you enjoy your vacation 🙂
spark January 30, 2013, 10:33 pm
Airlines still serve in-flight meals?
Rachel January 31, 2013, 1:00 am
Yep, the flight just has to be over a certain length. California to Florida would qualify, I’d imagine!
Anna January 31, 2013, 12:25 am
AMC is already giving me the best gift…new Walking Dead! 🙂
