Weekend Open Thread

Happy weekend! I hope you have better plans for yours than I have for mine. We are finally moving into our new place next week. (If it seems like I’ve been talking about this move for weeks, it’s because I have. And trust me, living it is even more tedious than reading about it). So this weekend will be lots of packing, moving stuff over to the new apartment, painting, installing shades and hanging curtains, selling stuff on Craigslist, and dropping stuff off at donation boxes. This week we painted our bedroom, Jackson’s bedroom, and the play room. And I started painting the living room and went through a whole quart of Marina Gray paint before I decided it was too dark and we had to paint over it with a whole quart of white paint. Now we’re going to try Classic Grey and hope it works out a little better. Then we have the full bathroom to paint. And that’s probably it. The landlord will have the kitchen painted. And clean (the place has been vacant for a couple of months). And then. Then! We’ll finally be all set to move in.

I have a lot of feelings about our new place (especially vs. our current place), some of which are mixed (it’s more space, but we’re giving up some nice amenities), but all of which can be summed up thusly: Our current place has three closets; our new place has six.
We move in on Thursday.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Good luck packing, Wendy!! I will have a sort of opposite weekend to yours, in that I am still UNpacking. We haven’t painted or anything yet, but I hope to once we get through our wedding (29 days from today!) and the holidays…happy weekend!

Good luck indeed!! Daylight savings time is already starting to get to me–sitting in my office until 5:30 (unfortunately I literally cannot leave any earlier) and watching it get progressively darker until it is pitch black when I leave is so depressing. I get approximately 0 hours of outside time and I just it sucks. So this weekend I am hoping for sun and going to enjoy as much time as possible out of doors. There is also a film festival that I may attend in my town-some of the movies they are screening look pretty cool. I may try to build a headboard tomorrow! Not looking forward to sliding deeper in to November–can’t believe we are so close to the holidays 🙁 time flies.

Grey paint is super tricky! We painted one of our bathrooms grey, but in retrospect I think the color we picked was too cool-toned and a little dark which = depressing. For our nursery, we used a lighter, warm-toned grey called “Revere Pewter” and it’s PERFECT. Looks a little taupe-y online, but it’s gorgeous in real life and definitely a light grey.

Oh, I love Revere Pewter! I was looking around on Apartment Therapy for color inspiration and noticed Revere Pewter several times and really liked it. I ended up selecting “classic gray” for our living room, which is actually very close to Revere Pewter (just maybe one shade lighter). And I chose a very light salmon color for the hallway. All the colors are sort of sub-bleached/ beachy. And I realized tonight as we ate dinner at the Cuban restaurant that we go to all the time that the paint colors we picked are all very similar to the colors of the restaurant (just all a shade or two lighter). So, essentially, our place will look like a sun-bleached cuban restaurant.

Well now I’m curious. What salmon color did you pick for your hallway? We’re looking for a light coral color for our living room but having a hard time finding just the right shade. And I just looked up “classic grey” and you’re right; they’re super similar. Very pretty!

Good luck on the moving! Hope it isn’t snowing there yet! What is the weather like in NYC?

I’m sad it’s going to snow. I hate this time of year, I want my fall back.

Ahhh I’m tipsy you guys. Navy Guy is the bestest and he went out to buy me wine at the liquor store while leaving me at his place with the kitties, my crocheting project, and Disney movies (which later turned into Dirty Dancing…mmm Patrick Swayze…). And when I got here after work he had dinner all ready for me and it was fantastic. It’s cold and rainy and windy and gross but that’s ok because I’m in a totally cuddly mood tonight. What a keeper!

I had 3 coworkers over last night and 2 French friends who are visiting from Paris and a LOT of wine was had. … I’m not eating cold pizza and watching a Duggar show from earlier this week. … But in 1 hour Moose and I are heading to Crossfit (best thing I’ve ever done!) and then to a memorial service for my dog walker who died 2 weeks ago… And then to the movies! Well Moose has to stay home for the movies. … And then tomorrow it’s brunchy brunch time with JillieZ and Herself – a wittle DW meetup in da burbs! And then damnitalltohell it’s basically Monday already. Hate how fast the weekends fly.

Also can dogs have nightmares? I think moose had one last night. He was whimpering and shaking but fast asleep. When I put my hand on him he snapped awake and stopped – my poor babe!

That’s happened to my dogs too–breaks my heart. So I just use it as an excuse to snuggle!

Aww, poor pups! I’ve heard the thing about dreaming of chasing animals before, too.

Good luck with the moving, Wendy! It really is a pain to move, so here’s hoping it goes smoothly. And I’m crossing my fingers that the new gray share turns out well! I definitely wasted a can or two of paint once because it ended up being too light and we ended up going back to get something darker. It can be so hard to tell before it actually goes on the wall…

Also, Bassanio got an informal job offer on Friday! He’s being cautiously optimistic but not telling anyone in case it doesn’t turn out (they still have some standard HR things to do). It’s not 100% what he wants to do, but it sounds like something he’ll like and he’ll finally have something that could be permanent, which his current job (although awesome) is not. Also, it’s government, so his boss could change in the next few months if the new elected official decides to appoint someone else. That really is the unknown here… But, cautiously optimistic yay!

Good luck, Wendy! I love moving and reorganizing. It makes everything seems new for a while! The actual packing not so much:)

Yes to everything seeming “new”! I hate, hate, hate moving. But once you are there and getting set up, it’s like you are starting a new chapter of your life, and everything does seem new. Enjoy the “new” Wendy!

Thanks, I’m very much looking forward to that part. Just have to get through the next few days first.
