How cool is this shot? Yesterday Drew, Jackson, and I spent the day traveling to the Midwest — probably my last trip for a while; I start my third trimester in just a few days and soon I won’t want to venture too far from home and my doctor — and, as we boarded our first flight, Jack said, “I want to fly this plane!” A flight attendant heard him and ushered him to the cockpit, which he was already heading toward himself, and the pilot waved him in and Jackson climbed on the seat and got ready for take-off. Back in December, he got to sit in the driver’s seat of a big fire truck after we brought some cookies to our local firehouse, so I asked him which was better — flying a plane or driving a firetruck, and he said driving the truck (but something tells me that, if I asked again, the answer could be either one). I just think it’s cool that so many professionals are kind and gracious to little kids. Imagine Jackson’s disappointment, though, if he grows up thinking that’s how it’s always gonna be. Good thing he’s got a hard-ass mom like me to set him straight if/when he needs it.
Anyhoo, we have a long weekend ahead packed with activities and family fun (touring caves, going fishing, watching acrobats, playing t-ball, visiting a farm, etc.). Hopefully, Drew and I will be able to scoot off on our own and maybe watch a movie and, like, eat some frozen custard. What are you up to?

I love the picture! That is going to be such a fun memory to look back on. Your weekend sounds great. I hope you have fun!
I’ll be baking red velvet oreo brownies (Sally’s Baking Addcition) for a radio contest (trying to win a mother’s day brunch for 4 and a spa treatment) and I’ll be walking in a 5K race Sunday morning.
Dear Wendy April 25, 2015, 7:01 am
Hope you win!

That picture is adorable! What airline was that? This has been a busy, long week, and I’m so happy it’s the weekend. Tonight I’m going to a late burlesque show, and I guess meeting the super cool sounding lady that my partner just started dating. Tomorrow we have plans to be pretty lazy, though I might suggest a picnic or something if it’s nice out.
I should probably spend Sunday cleaning my apartment. It’s more likely that I’ll spend it binge re-watching GoT.
Dear Wendy April 25, 2015, 7:02 am
American Airlines.
Enjoy your lazy weekend!

We are getting ready for my parents in law to come for a week on Sunday! I’m excited. We are driving down to Moab and will be biking, hiking and swimming and whatever else all week. My husband hasn’t taken this much time off since we had our baby.
Then, OMG! we just got out of our horrible rental lease, and we signed up for a year in a nice condo in Park City! I’m so excited. We’ll be out of the smog and heat of SLC and we will be two minutes from my husband’s job. Hiking trails right outside! I could go on and on, but most importantly, we will be on one safe 3 bedroom level for our son and December baby! The house we are in now is not safe and the landlord has been negligent on fixing anything he promised he would. We have to move in three weeks! Ahhhhh!
And Wendy, all your pictures of Jackson are adorable. It looks like he has a really fun life with you guys! I want to fly a plane too!

My sister just found out she is due in December with a baby!! Congrats 🙂
booknerd April 24, 2015, 4:34 pm
Thank you! And congratulations to you! I actually am guessing December until I see the doctor in two weeks.

That picture is awesome. It is cool that so many people are awesome with kids like that. I work for a PD and when I had my niece and nephew, a bunch of officers let them hang in the cars and play with the lights, etc. Love it!
.
I did my 3 hour glucose tolerance test today (horrific… My veins never work with the techs. 9 total pokes for 4 blood draws) and found out I have gestational diabetes. Sucks, but the nurse said its not horribly severe and should be able to be managed with food changes and glucose monitoring.
Dear Wendy April 25, 2015, 7:05 am
Oh, no! That sucks. At least it’s just temporary and it isn’t too severe. Hang in there.
.
I’m actually having my most comfortable week of pregnancy in a while. I’m experiencing a reprieve from the unpleasant symptoms I was feeling for a while, which is nice, especially since we’re on vacation. It makes such a big difference when you don’t feel terrible and when you can sleep well.
honeybeenicki April 26, 2015, 8:16 am
I see a specialist this week to get a meter, so I’ll have a better idea of exactly how not severe it is (they haven’t actually released my test numbers to me yet and I forgot to ask since the nurse woke me up from a sugar crash nap after the test). I’m not too worried because I know its easily managed. I am giving up soda though, so we’ll see how that goes. I had cut down to one can per day but now I’m just going to try not to drink it at all.
Ooo sleeping well sounds fun!
booknerd April 25, 2015, 11:07 am
I’m sorry, honeybee!
Pamplemousse Rose April 25, 2015, 11:44 pm
I had gestational diabetes too. My number was so high after the first test they didn’t even have me do the second. I was able to control it with diet rather than insulin. I found eating lots of small meals/snacks through the day helped. Also having a high protein snack before bed helps keeps blood sugar lower in the morning. Pay attention to which food trigger spikes and avoid those. in the end it wasn’t as bad as i thought it would be.
honeybeenicki April 26, 2015, 8:18 am
My first test was actually only 2 points over acceptable. But the 3 hour test was horrible for me. They didn’t have the orders and then they couldn’t draw my blood (my veins are always uncooperative) so to get 4 blood draws, I got poked 9 times total… 7 of those in the hands. Yuck.
Cranberry April 26, 2015, 9:20 am
I had gestational diabetes too with my second pregnancy. It was easy to control with diet, and was a great incentive to eat extra healthy and exercise.

Tonight NG and I hosted my work BFF and her fiance and it was SO FUN. We had an amazing crock pot dinner, drank wine from cat-shaped bottles (since we’re all crazy cat people), we played board games, and much fun was had. We’re definitely doing that again! Tomorrow is a work filled day, and Sunday will be a day of SLEEP.
Ika April 25, 2015, 6:20 am
Tomorrow my baby girl turns 4!!! So today I will be cooking and baking alllllllll day, then tomorrow a.m I decorate the place before the guests arrive.
Dear Wendy April 25, 2015, 7:06 am
Yay, fabulous fours!
Addie Pray April 25, 2015, 1:23 pm
Happy birthday Oli! … I’ll give her my present when I see her in just 3 weeks give or take!!!
Ika April 25, 2015, 1:30 pm
No present needed sily!!!! Just all the braids so she thinks her hair is long 😉
Classic April 25, 2015, 6:38 pm
The thing that I remember most about when my son was four (haha yeah 20 years ago) was the spinning. Jumping and spinning and twirling around all of the time. It was fine but I was just a little nervous in the beverage aisle with the glass bottles and all.
Ika April 25, 2015, 10:26 pm
yep! my daughter only wants to wear “twirly skirts”. Imagine how fun it is getting her in her uniform for kindy haha

FML. I made a huge mistake. Someone from my HS class posted a real estate listing for this mansion in MA. It’s extremely Victorian, like you would think it was still the 1880s, looking at most of the pictures. It’s 10 bedrooms but it’s going for what a tiny condo would go for in my town. The listing says it’s haunted and was the subject of a recent book. So of course like a dumbass I buy the book on Kindle and now I’m scared out of my wits. My husband was away last night and I had to watch 3 SATC episodes and take a valium to get to sleep. The book is about this stupid couple who bought the house in 2009 and had to leave 2 years later. I guess they are the ones selling it now. I really hope this is all a scam to raise money or something because it’s absolutely horrifying.
Anonymous April 25, 2015, 9:59 am
Well that’s why you get an exorcism for the house if it’s haunted or just communicate with the ghost to see what it wants. If i wants you gone i would go straight for the exorcist.
Kate April 26, 2015, 6:34 pm
Well, they did do exorcisms and cleansings. They let every ghost hunter and paranormal research team and psychic and demonologist in there to investigate even though the ghosts clearly didn’t like it. It seemed like there were 7 or 8 documented spirits in there, both Victorian and more contemporary, but there was also some dark, evil sort of thing that hung out in the basement. The consensus was they could never fully clear the place out because the ghosts were so advanced in their abilities, and also because the house contained like three portals to the other side. Then some idiot used a homemade ouija board and maybe invited all sorts of other spirits into the house, including a malevolent woman who tried to take over the wife. That’s when they finally got out. But they really come across as morons, inviting all these teams of people to come tramping through, pissing off the ghosts and damaging their stuff, and staying there over 2years when things were horribly wrong and they were in danger. DO NOT READ.
booknerd April 26, 2015, 8:49 pm
I think I’ve seen a paranormal show about that house. I mean…. Maybe.

Went on a micro-distillery tour last night of a distiller that puts out really quality vodka. I can’t wait until the taproom opens up. It was like a pre-open discount tour thing that was pretty fun.
.
Today, my friend’s coming over and she’s going to hw and I’m going to do a little work and watch The Profit and probably some Supernatural. Then tomorrow’s a baptism of a friend’s kid.

I am packing and moving to the Grand Teton National Park for the summer. Woot woot

It is the coolest! He is small but so mighty. Also, that was the world’s best and nicest flight attendant. This is so good, he will have this forever.
Cranberry April 26, 2015, 9:25 am
Cute photo in cockpit! Hard to imagine, but they used to do this *during* flights before 9/11. If the flight attendants weren’t busy, they’d come and see if my little boys wanted to visit the cockpit. The boys LOVED it, and the captain gave them some little pilot’s wings to wear.
othy April 26, 2015, 6:01 pm
I did this as a kid, it was so awesome!
