Dear Wendy

Weekend Open Thread

Yay, it’s Friday! This has been a long week (complete with a cross-country commute), so I’m glad to have a couple days to catch my breath. We are in the thick of nesting over here at Chez Condellberry with the delivery of a twin bed yesterday for Jackson (and now we convert his toddler bed back into a bassinet for the baby), a couple of air conditioners, new bathroom vanities that need to be assembled and installed, and lots of new baby clothes courtesy of my mother — and a cute “Big Brother” shirt for the world’s most excited big brother-to-be — that I need to launder and find room for. The addition of the twin bed — which seems huge in comparison to what Jackson has been sleeping on — complete with the coolest robot sheets, has made me re-think the entire layout of the bedroom, which both kids will be sharing, as well as the playroom/office, and, neurotic and hormonal as I am lately, I was up in the middle of the night measuring furniture and walls and literally moving shit around from side to side and room to room, while trying not to wake up my sleeping child and husband. And then when Drew woke up this morning at 6 to his crazy-eyed, up-all-night, pregnant wife, I immediately put him to work moving the stuff that was too heavy for me to move, like a bookcase and a dresser and the beds, which I’m sure he was totally thrilled about. I don’t know which one of us needs a shot of tequila more. (Considering this weekend marks nine years Drew has been dealing with my bullshit, I’m inclined to say he does; Happy anniversary, Drewski).

Anyhoo. Weekend! Kentucky Derby! Some boxing match everyone is talking about! May! Warm weather and sunny skies and trees in bloom and good moods everywhere! Go out and enjoy yourself, won’t you?

      It’s a girl! Born May 2, 8 pound 3 ounces. Damn, that’s a big baby.

Ok, if they end up naming the baby the name you were planning to use, would you change your pick? I was thinking about that, and had it been a boy, I’d cross his name off the list, because you know whatever they pick will become widely popular and trendy.

We wouldn’t change the name, but we’d be annoyed. They won’t be using our baby’s name though, I’m sure.

I would totally change the name. Even though I have a daughter we didn’t consider any feminized version of George (I really like Georgia for a name) for that reason. In fact, we had a short list of 3 names when my daughter was born and picked one after we saw her. The same day, the vital statistics where I live released the most recent name statistics and hers jumped up 4 spots from 18 to 14. For a second I considered changing it. But just for a second 😀

BOXING. I am planning to make “Bloody Mannys” but I don’t want to take sides – any ideas for a cute cocktail that has a slightly menacing Floyd Mayweather reference??

This is the first weekend in a loooong while where I don’t have anything going on. Navy Guy and I are going to a baseball game later tonight, and we’re looking at a place tomorrow which we hope to move into in the not too distant future (!!!!!). Other than that, a whole lot of drinking on patios and reading books and napping sounds pretty good to me!!

The place we saw was perfect!!! We applied for it and will find out in the next few days!!! 😀 We also swung by the furniture store “just to look” at some options because we both have crappy hand-me-down and garage sale furniture. We found an AMAZING couch for insanely cheap, so we will both get rid of our crappy stuff before we move! It’s absolutely perfect. Note to self, don’t go to the furniture store “just to look”…….

My boyfriend returns from his work trip tomorrow ^_^. It was the first time we’ve been apart (in different countries) since we’ve been together. Of course his trip was in the same week my best friend had surgery so this week sucked for the most part (it felt so lonnnng with barely anyone to talk to during the days except for coworkers).

Tonight meeting up with other friends for Cinco de Mayo celebrations and tomorrow is birthday celebrations and there is a local festival happening tomorrow too (Batabano).

We have officially decided to move to Colorado Springs in 6 weeks. And in that six weeks I have to pack, get my house ready for the market which includes some painting, power washing, de-cluttering, a huge ass garage sale (which I hate putting on garage sales) and a multitude of other things, my next six weeks and all those weekends are going to be very busy…and I still work full time and my husband is already working in COS…its all so very overwhelming but exciting at the same time. I’m sweating just thinking about it all.
    .
Then my MIL calls a little while ago saying they are taking my FIL to the hospital because he is having shortness of breath and a lot of pain. I hope it isn’t a heart attack. He is already on chemo for brain cancer that was removed a couple of months ago. I’m waiting to hear what they have to say…
    .
Hope everyone has a good weekend though!

I hope your FIL is OK!!!! I suppose it might be a side effect of the chemo.

And you sound like you are going to have a crazy 6 weeks!! I hope it all goes smoothly, and you get some time off to relax after you move!

Tomorrow I’m going to a fundraiser/silent auction for one of my work clients. It’s tiki themed, and I’ve got a cute dress to wear! Plus free drinks and food, and opportunity to schmooze with some well-heeled folks (I expect). Should be interesting at least.
Sunday I have a date. With Hot Gym Crush no less. Oh yes. And I am excited and slightly nervous. Even though I know we (up till now at least) get along well. (We spent almost an hour and a half talking one evening a couple of weeks ago…) We shall see.

It was good! We wound up having dinner last night. Then we got ice cream. Then we walked around trying to find a place that was still open on a sunday night, and found a bar and stayed there till 12:30. Basically we talked for 5.5 hours. Although, he’s quite chatty so much of it was done by him (but not in an obnoxious way- it was definitely a mutual gabfest.)
At the end, I drove him to where his car was parked and we hugged and he said we should do this again sometime, and I agreed, and I said it was lots of fun, and then we said, well, see you tomorrow!
So I think it went well… I am hoping that I have not been friend zoned…

I wanna be Hot Gym guy. I mean, I don’t belong to a gym, but, still.

Do other people have *hot* fill-in-the-blank people they crush on, and identify by how you know them? Like, Hot Bank Girl? Or, Hot Pharmacist who works at Albertsons? One of my all time worst frustrations is that I never get to sit next to Hot Girl on the plane.

Hi guys! Tonight I’m going to a premiere of a documentary about a chicago public school, Whitney Young. I’d like to pretend i got invited because I’m a famous movie critic and important, but no it’s because I shelled out $250 for an invitation. I’m so excited though – I love documentaries, public schools and all things Chicago. And I’m insane.

I have a new niece! She was born on Tuesday, and her name is Bailey. And she’s darling (queue everyone I tell asking me when we’re going to have one even though everyone knows we don’t want one).
    .
Also, I refinanced my house yesterday. We decided to take the plunge for a 15 year. It adds $100 a month, but we cut off almost 7 years and we’ll save about 40k over the life of the loan. Quite happy about that.
    .
Oh, and we’re seriously thinking about getting a puppy soon. Othello is only going to be taking 2-3 classes for Summer and Fall semester, so he’ll have more free time to care for and train a puppy. There’s an adoption fair this weekend that we probably won’t have time to go to (it’s finals week for him), but I might sneak out and go by myself!

My husband and I just booked a mini beach getaway for our first wedding anniversary in 2 weeks! Our hotel room will have direct beach access and even though it won’t be as beautiful as Playa del Carmen where we were married last year, it will be peaceful and romantic and relaxing. It’s in 2 weeks. 2 weeks is enough time to get healthy and in pregnancy bikini shape, I hope! I’ll be 19 weeks pregnant by then :[]
    .
Boy, do I need a vacation right now. The last 10 days have been physically, painfully awful, with one bad thing leading to another to another (as it tends to happen when my immune system is down). Right now I’m on antibiotics for a UTI, so hopefully it will clear up soon and I’ll be able to start enjoying this whole pregnancy thing. At least my energy is back and I should be able to start working out again, soon. I just want to feel good again!
    .
This afternoon I’m going to begin the process of painting the baby room. The last tenants had a baby girl and they painted the room this very bright, awful yellow color. It’s just too much! I’ll be painting it gray and a very pale, eggshell yellow. Gender neutral FTW! I have mint blue curtains to round it out. Anyway, off to pick up painting supplies! Hope everyone’s having a good weekend!

I had such a nice day today. First, I went to the gym to work out. Then I changed clothes and walked to the beach to lie in the sun for a while. From the beach, I walked to Trader Joe’s to buy healthy and delicious wine, veggies, and cheese, and I carried it home and had a nice meal and nice wine. It was a beautiful sunny day with a workout, seven miles walk, and inexpensive healthy food. I am happy.

GREASE is the word! My kids both have roles in their High School production this weekend. So my parents are in town as well as an adopted “aunt” from where we used to live. The in-laws and some other friends are coming for next weeks performances.
    .
Small town high schools rock! Last year my daughter couldn’t even get a sniff at a call-back audition in a much larger and ultra-competitive school, and it absolutely crushed her. Like major depression and therapy crushed. This year, in a much smaller school which stresses participation, she has a lead part and everyone is telling her how awesome she is. She has blossomed! And my son, who is actually only in eighth grade, is up there singing and “mancing” with juniors and seniors. To them he is just one of the guys.

Theater can be a tremendously rewarding and esteem building experience. My daughter is involved in community theater. It has helped her feel confident speaking before large groups. She was in Bye Bye Birdie during this school year and she loved it. She was one of the younger kids and didn’t have a major role but she was great in her role. I’m sorry your daughter was in such a competitive environment that there was no room for her in the show. That’s sad but extremely good for her this year that she can attend a different school and be allowed to shine!!!

That’s great. I hope you all had so much fun at the performances. My one cousin is very involved in musical theater and is fantastic in his school’s productions (I could be biased, though). He consistently gets big parts and you can tell just talking to him about it how much he loves it.
      .
Also, that really is good that your kids are doing so much better without all that competitiveness. It can be so soul-crushing to be in those environments. They got rid of class rank at my high school because it was having such a negative effect on the kids.

This is my last week off before I go back to work. I’m feeling totally unprepared and a bit sad. My daughter did her daycare transition last week and did so well. She loved all the kids and the activities. By the last day she would barely wait for me to get her jacket off before crawling off to the room. Knowing she’s at a place she likes so much will definitely make it easier.
    .
Tonight we’re going to see my nephews’ end-of-year concert for the hip hop dance class they’re in. 5-7 year olds dancing hip hop. I can’t wait!

Lol, at this point, I would totally jokingly say that too. Well, it would sound jokey but I’d be serious. When we planned ours, we were only going to two, maybe three. And for me, the bulk of it is September through November, so I’m not even in the thick of it yet either…
