Today is my sixth wedding anniversary. Happy anniversary, Drew! Six years have come and gone so fast; it truly feels like a few months ago we were tying the knot and now look at us, two kids and lots of gray hair (Drew) later. Our friend Mary babysat for us last night — our first post-Joanie evening out — and we celebrated a day early with our traditional cocktails and oysters (two years in a row makes it a tradition, right?), followed by dinner al fresco at a favorite neighborhood restaurant. (And I did wear this new top).
When we were at the bar getting drinks, there was a group of new parents gathering at the two tables next to us, all with babies around three months old (babies in bars is a Brooklyn thing). We could tell they were clearly first-time parents because of the sheer terror still visible in their faces. Also, none of them had gone gray yet. As we sat and overheard snippets of their conversations — sleep, teething, and nap schedules being the leading themes — I felt so relieved to be parents of a second baby and not a first. Having your first baby is hard as shit. In addition to being exhausting, it’s totally scary because you have no experience and no perspective. The second baby is still completely exhausting — more so, really, because you have to balance the needs of your older child and manage his/her jealousy — but you have the benefit of having some idea what you’re doing as well as knowing that all of this, for better or worse, is going to pass quickly. The first time around, it’s hard to believe that your life isn’t forever stuck at each stage of your kid’s development — that things will, indeed, change and you will sleep again (sort of. eventually. it’s never really the same though) and have conversations with other adults that don’t center around nipple cream and diaper sizes. Having the perception we have now has made the newborn experience much more enjoyable so far.
Anyway, ciao for now and have a lovely weekend! Oh, and don’t forget that today is National Tequila Day! Also, if you’re in the mood to shop, Bloomingdales is having a massive sale this weekend (take $20 off every $50 you spend with code SUNSHINE). I LOVE this dress (it’s pricey, but with the sale, it’s not too bad for a special occasion), and these on-trend jeans, super cute wedges for fall, and I personally think these sandals are hideous but I must be alone in thinking that because I see them everywhere; these are much cuter if you ask me; and I love these beach towels.

Those wedges are exactly what I’ve been looking for. <3 <3
I should resist. But I don't want to.
And I love my birks, although I acknowledge that I don't understand why they are trending as 'in style', because they aren't *that* stylish.
Happy wedding anniversary!

I like a lot of birks, but the patent leather ones that I linked to are not my cup o’ tea at all. And yet, they are super trendy right now. Do not understand.

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY! Your tradition and date sounds lovely.
.
I actually own those cuter sandal, just in a different color and I love them. I bought them last year. Oh, and the brand is Naya… but they pretty much look the exact same.
.
Soooooo…. my first date last Sunday went really well. We had a second date last night. He’s texted consistently since first date. A third date hasn’t been decided, but I think it will happen because of a bet we placed and I lost and now I owe him. And he already texted me this afternoon. All good signs and I’m a little giddy. Like last night my face hurt from smiling and laughing on the date.
.
Anyway, I thought I would share because it’s all making me super happy and I’m trying to not get a head of myself and just take things a date at a time.
.
Everyone have a fabulous weekend!

Face hurting from smiling and laughing = the best. Hope the happiness continues!

I had a date like that the other night. Smiled the whole.damn.drive.home. Happy for you Ktfran!

Yay for you veritiek! It’s such a fun, good feeling.

I think that moment the photo was taken, Wendy was looking over at our mom. I was sitting next to our mom, bawling. I was very happy for Wendy and Drew, and I still get a little teary seeing those wedding photos.
.
My boyfriend, who has already watched all of Breaking Bad, has sat with me through my binge-watching of the past four seasons over the past month. Just 16 more episodes to go! I could seriously end it now, with the way Season 4 ended, but I hear Season 5 is good. We’re we’re done with BrBa, I get to introduce him to Mad Men.
.
Happy weekend, everyone!

Happy anniversary!!! It seems like just yesterday this site had launched. I can’t believe how quickly time has passed! I hope everyone has a fabulous weekend. Although I’ll probably be skipping tequila to have gelato. Then I’m going to Target. I’m living life right on the edge.

I also do not understand the Birkenstocks trend… Although they do make a t-strap type of sandal, which I think is really cute and I hear is comfortable!
Happy anniversary as well! And that top is super cute!!
I may be coming to Brooklyn in October… there is a really good chance that I’ll be able to go to a conference there, but I have to talk to both of my bosses about it. (One boss said he’d probably be ok with it, but wanted to know more details and wants the other boss to know about it.) Fingers crossed!!!

I own Birkenstocks, wear them all the time (I’m wearing them right now, yay for Aussie winter getting back to normal) and even I don’t like them. I’m really prone to getting terrible tendinitis in my hands and feet though and those godawful clodhoppers seem to help. I’ve seen some cuter styles around than the ones I own lately though so I might invest in another pair that make me feel prettier.
ETA: happy anniversary! What poor form forgetting to put that in first time around.

I remember when Birkenstocks were super popular back in the late 90s, early aughts. At least they were popular amongst the middle school set. I definitely had a couple of pairs.
.
My friend actually wore some coral Birks to her wedding earlier this summer. It was a super, super low-key wedding. She was wearing a plain white sundress dressed up with accessories that matched the shoes perfectly. I tend to gravitate toward prissy and/or impractical footwear these days, so Birkenstock are not really for me, but it was the most her thing ever. She also has kinda f’d up feet, and it would have been weird had she worn heels. It just worked out really well for her that the Birks she’s been wearing all along are suddenly on trend again and available in a bunch of different colors now.

Happy anniversary!! We’re leaving on vacation in the morning – week of camping in Montana. Got the car loaded up tonight. I might be a bit crazy being pregnant and sleeping on the ground. Hopefully it won’t be too uncomfortable. All my brothers are coming for at least a few days. I haven’t vacationed with most of them since we were little kids! I also plan to find the nearest Target. I miss it since it left Canada…

I remember waking up my first when she was newborn to make sure she was still breathing. I never worried a minute about my second.
Dear Wendy July 25, 2015, 12:59 pm
Same here! Well, except for in the hospital on our first night together. Drew had to go home, so it was just Joanie and I and I was afraid to fall asleep bc I didn’t want her to stop breathing. And then I was like, wait, that didn’t happen with Jackson and it’s not going to happen with her. And I’ve been fine ever since.

Happy anniversary, Wendy and Drew!
Those jeans are exactly what I’ve been looking for!! – I feel like everything is skinny jeans and those do me no favors. But $160 is too pricey and the sale doesn’t apply to those…figures. They do look great, though. Guess I’ll have to keep shopping…
In other news, we’re buying a house! Hopefully we’ll be able to close on it in August. Exciting!
Dear Wendy July 26, 2015, 12:05 pm
Oh, I didn’t realize the jeans weren’t included in the sale. Sorry about that. How about these?
And congrats on buying a house!!
Dear Wendy July 26, 2015, 12:08 pm
You can also get these (already on sale) at an 20% off if you join Anthro.
