The Photo Booth pics are from our first family outing to Coney Island last weekend (I’d taken both kids to Coney Island the week before, but Drew got to join us this time). We also took the kids to their first baseball game while we were there, but we left after three innings because it was kind of a shit show. (Literally, in Joanie’s case. At one point, I was changing her diaper in the bathroom and she just kept right on going as I’m changing her and there was so much and I ran out of wipes and I had to buckle her onto the changing table while I grabbed some toilet paper from the nearest stall to clean up as best I could and THEN there wasn’t any soap when I went to wash my hands and I had to go to a different bathroom and then I had to dip myself in a big vat of boiling water to sanitize my whole body because, you know, shit show.) Ah, motherhood.
This was a big week in our household because Jackson started PreK on Wednesday. The whole summer has been about two huge changes in our lives: the new baby and the new school (“big boy” school, no less). As you can imagine, there was a TON of anxiety (and excitement) about both, with all the assorted emotional outbursts and crazy behavior (and Jackson acted out a little too, ba-dum-bum.). So now that we’re on the other side of both changes, I hope things will start calming down a bit. In the meantime, I’ve been drinking a lot of tequila.
What’s new in your lives? Any back-to-school stories or end-of-summer freak outs? What are you up to this weekend?

This is going to be a really fun weekend. I just got notified I made it to the final round of interviews for a position with my company’s biggest competitor, different divisions, but still competitor, which is fun because I’m feeling quite spiteful with my current company. Tonight is a triple date of make your own pizzas with two other couples. Saturday is couch shopping with my girlfriend, and Sunday I have a ton of woodworking to do to finish a TV stand for girlfriend’s apartment and then a whole bunch of small items I’m making to sell at a farmer’s market in a couple weekends. Happy weekend Wendy and everyone.
Diablo September 11, 2015, 4:53 pm
Congrats, mrmid! Good luck in your interview.
My missus is out of town this weekend (our niece’s bachelorette), so I have diverse debaucheries planned, including a jam with music buddies, a birthday party for a dear friend (which M is sad to miss), and just some general drankin’, smowkin’, cussin’, and carryin’ on til dawn.
mrmidtwenties September 11, 2015, 4:59 pm
Oh there is nothing better than just general carrying on, especially if you mix in cussin, smokin, drinking, and shenanigans.

I have a lot planned – today is my dad’s 60th birthday but we are celebrating tomorrow. Plus I’m planning to go to the drive in with some friends. But right now all I can think about is food. I didn’t get a lunch break today, and my stomach is not happy about it.

This week has been a pretty terrible one. My cat passed away, in my arms, in an uber on the the way to the animal hospital. Two weeks prior she was diagnosed with HCM and given about 6 months with the caveat that she could go any time, but I didn’t expect it to be so soon, though I’m relieved that she didn’t suffer long. She bit me very badly as she panicked at the end, which put me in the ER. I was already sick with a bad cold when this happened, and there have been some unpleasant developments at work. I can’t remember having had a worse week. I’m glad this week is over, but it’s only the beginning of my days without her. I am so so sad.
Dear Wendy September 11, 2015, 4:54 pm
Oh my god, that’s a TERRIBLE week!! I’m so so sorry about your cat. I’m sure you will miss her. I’m glad she didn’t suffer long.

I am so sorry Tara. What a shitty week. Hope you have lots of hugs and wine in store for your weekend.

My Sympathies, Tara. I’ve lost two little buddies in the last three years, and took it hard enough that I took a pet free year in 2014. We got Simon (my current avatar) on Jan 18, 2015. I just love the little a-hole. Comfort yourself knowing you gave your friend the best life she could have gotten. Even at the end, she had you there to care for her. Take care of yourself.
TaraMonster September 11, 2015, 5:14 pm
Thanks, everyone. It hurts just writing it. But @Diablo, I’m definitely taking a long time to be pet-free. I haven’t gone home to my apartment in a couple days because I can’t bear being there without her yet. The heartbreak is incomparable, but I have a beautiful source of support in my boyfriend, who’s been with me every step of the way- even taking off work to visit her in the animal hospital with me when she was first diagnosed, helping administer her medication, and accompanying me to the ER. He loved her so much, and she loved him back (which is really saying something as she had hated everyone I’ve ever dated before him). I think she picked him for me. It was her parting gift.

@TaraMonster – I’m so sorry for your loss. But how beautiful that your cat got to meet your BF and gave him her stamp of approval before she passed. {hugs}
MissDre September 11, 2015, 7:20 pm
I’m really sorry TaraMonster. I’ve also lost a kitty of 14 years so I understand your heartbreak. XoXo!
othy September 12, 2015, 12:00 am
I’m so sorry! At least she didn’t seem to suffer.
Lianne September 12, 2015, 3:33 pm
I am SO so sorry Tara ?
Jane63 September 11, 2015, 5:15 pm
Sweet pics, Wendy! Sorry, Tara. Really sorry.

I always tell people they don’t know shit until they’ve had kids. Then for the first few years all you talk about is their shit (the color, the consistency, how often, the smell).
I’m having oral surgery tomorrow 🙁 I’ve never had laughing gas during a procedure at the dentist, so there’s that!
Mango September 11, 2015, 9:49 pm
My husband had eye surgery today. So my day has consisted of working five hours then driving him to surgery (no traffic) and home (lots of traffic). And tracking when he needs which eye drop or pill. And I get to drive him to another appointment tomorrow. He’s doing really well though. Hardly any pain and sleeping a lot. And I’ve already decided that tomorrow I’m dropping him off at home after his appointment and then going grocery shopping so I can have some time alone.
Bubbles September 13, 2015, 5:38 pm
What type of eye surgery did your husband have? A few years ago my husband had optical decompression surgery (twice actually) so he was off work for a couple of weeks each time. Hope your husband has a speedy recovery (and you get some alone/free time).
othy September 12, 2015, 12:02 am
My cousin is running a marathon tomorrow, so I’m planning on surprising her on the course, complete with sign cheering her on. I even used the back to make a sign to cheer on the random strangers running the race. It’ll be fun to be on the cheering end of a race.
Lianne September 12, 2015, 3:32 pm
It was my birthday yesterday and my husband surprised me with a birthday dinner AND an itinerary for a trip to Paris and Barcelona!! We had a tough summer so he wanted to do something extra special for me and boy did he go big! Also, despite flying in from NJ, Kate made it out to dinner straight from the airport!

First week at my new school went overall pretty well. I was soooo tired though. There’s no tired like first week of school teacher tired. We had a wedding on Friday of a close friend and I felt really bad that we left at 9:30, but I was super duper exhausted and couldn’t stay awake for one more minute. This weekend has been spent relaxing with tons of planning for next week at school. My to do list is insanely long so hopefully I can get a lot done today. Navy Guy is doing his monthly Navy duties so I’m by myself at home with the kitties. Married life is going pretty well so far, now I’m ready for my job to calm down a bit. 🙂 Never a dull moment!
Bubbles September 13, 2015, 5:35 pm
@Lyra- Congratulation on your summer nuptials! Hopefully you’ll be able to share the details of your wedding day (unless I missed that post), once your school duties are back to normal. 😀

Long time reader, just letting you know that I have not been able to log in since recent change on mobile
Dear Wendy September 13, 2015, 7:31 pm
Thanks for letting me know. Have you clicked the menu icon on the top right side (looks like three horizontal lines) and then gone to “login”?Is anyone else having problems logging in?
