Weekend Open Thread

screen-shot-2016-11-04-at-1-34-54-pm

Phew, we made it through the week, and only a few more days and we will have made it through this maddening election. I cannot wait to be done with this. I was heartbroken when Bernie lost the primaries and I’ve never really recovered, but, still, how can I not feel some excitement at the idea of electing our first woman president? It’s pretty incredible, even if this isn’t the first woman I necessarily would have picked for the honor. Let’s just hope she does get the honor. Vote, vote, vote, everyone!

And a reminder: Don’t set our country back 60 years by voting for Trump, but do set your clocks back this weekend when daylight savings time ends.

And check out the sale on shoes at ModCloth (use code OMGYES for 25% off purchases of $100+). ModCloth has some of the cutest shoe selections of anyone. I’m digging these western booties, these glitter sneakers, these adorable heels, and these super femme flats. My inner 6-year-old wants these. Sale ends tonight, so hurry!

Oh! And I re-added “Meetups” to our forums. There’s already an inquiry about a Dallas meetup. And I know BGM is going to be in NYC November 9 – 21. Any New Yorkers down for a meetup while he’s here? Anyone want to volunteer to organize it?? (I’ve always organized in the past, but don’t want people to think it has to be that way; I welcome anyone else taking the lead!)

Have a wonderful weekend!

Totally down for a meet up. 🙂

This means that — Yay! I survived my Youtube Red Series shoot. Whew! Five weeks, 24 shoot days… All over LA. (Including the studio that called Mad Men home!) The show is Me And My Grandma. It stars Eva Gutowski (who has nearly 8 million subscribers on Youtube!) And Rhea Perlman (who I will admit intimidated me at first as I was a huge CHEERS fan back in the day!) The entire cast was so much fun to work with — seriously, you all know how much I would LOVE to be a bitch and complain about somebody — but truly, everybody was so fantastic to work with! And being the on-set set decorator / props guy, I worked with them pretty much constantly. Such a great group. I can’t wait to see how it all comes together. We shot six half hour episodes. It goes up in the New Year.

I had a scary experience last night, which I’ll describe because there’s a good tip in it for if something is stuck in your or someone else’s throat. I was eating an oyster and a piece of shell got lodged in my throats and wouldn’t go down, and it was sharp. I could breathe, but I was scared because I wasn’t sure if I started panicking if I’d be able to get enough air, and also, how to get this thing out? A manager came over and took me into the ladies’ room. She gave me a glass of water and said to take a small sip because if it went down or not would determine whether the shell was in my windpipe or throat, I guess? I took a sip and the shell immediately forcefully ejected in the sink, with blood. It was huge – bigger than my thumbnail , maybe like nickel sized, and really jagged. She was freaked out by it. She grabbed it in a napkin as evidence for the report she has to file (but I got her to bring it back out so I could take a pic just in case I need it). Anyway, the sip of water trick is a good one to get something to come up that you would NOT want to swallow. Or just if your kid swallows a chip or something that gets stuck and hurts.

Yeah, just feels like a normal sore throat. I got lucky! If I do eat oysters again (not sure right now), I’ll check them VERY carefully. You get those tiny pieces of shell from time to time, but this was insane.

Oh geez that is such a scary feeling. Good to know on the sip trick.

I was at a rehearsal dinner a few years ago and eating a cheese cube.. got it stuck in my throat, couldn’t breathe. It was so noisy and busy in the room that i couldn’t get anyone’s attention. Ended up hurling my self on the back of a couch or a chair to get it moved. Freaking scary

OMG! It is weird how nobody pays attention. I could actually speak and still had trouble getting my husband and the bartender to understand the problem!

That’s terrifying that you couldn’t breathe.
