Weekend Open Thread

Happy Friday! Drew and I left this morning for a weekend — 54 hours, but who’s counting — away (sans kids), and I’ve been looking forward to this little getaway for a long time. We’re going to Shelter Island, which neither of us has visited before (it’s just off Long Island, for those who aren’t familiar), and taking three trains and a ferry, which I wouldn’t attempt with a toddler in tow, but did I mention that we aren’t taking the kids? No, we are not!

Tomorrow marks 12 years since our blind date (and it’s also my mom’s birthday – happy birthday, Mom!). That photo above isn’t quite that old though. That was taken eight years ago on Drew’s 40th birthday, when we were still newlyweds living footloose, well-rested, childfree lives in Manhattan. Drew’s friend gave him a copy last weekend when he was visiting LA, and it’s one of my favorites.

Anyway, have a great weekend, and I’ll see you back here on Monday!

    Sounds great. Have a blast.

Hubby works half days fridays which I love so we’ve been sitting around relaxing and grilling. Since the kids in school and most people at work it always feels like playing hookey.

I got a Stitch Fix again after giving up on them several years ago, and it was good stuff! The two tops (one rayon, one 100% cotton) feel soft and natural and not like slithery polyester like they used to send, and they also gave me really cute sandals at a reasonable price. The jeans and jacket I already have similar, but I guess that means they got my style right.

I still feel like the items are a bit overpriced, and not anything earth-shattering, but if you have no time to shop and want someone to pick things for you, it’s not bad at all.

Interested since you tried again. I did about four boxes a while back and it was ridiculous. I have giant boobs and they sent me a bunch of tiny tank tops you could not wear with a bra, seriously had to be an A cup to wear. Hello, you know my bra size it’s in there. My stylist “worked” with me to fix it and that apparently turned into me dressing like my grandma. I kept two things out of all of them, a pair of jeans and one top. I even had my stylist look at my Pinterest and all that. Was so annoyed I gave up.

I tried Daily Look. The stuff they sent me was all their brand and cheap quality. I did however find good items to buy on their website outside of the subscription. I like that you can shop items on their site unlike Stitch Fix.

I feel like I tried one other but cannot for the life of me remember which it was.

The shopping here suck. The closest Nordstrom is 250 miles away. I am DYING shopping wise. I want to cry. NEED my fix.

I follow some. Just outside enough of Chicago to be too far. It was going to be the city but changed fairly last min actually. Luckily, temporarily.

I don’t know. We can go anywhere at that point. Not really wanting to try to buy a new house in the OC, CA housing market as that’s a million for a family home. Perhaps Seattle, I’d like… it is too hot for me even in So Cal frankly. Denver is high on the list also, I lived there many years.

Yeah if you don’t like too hot or too cold or rain or earthquakes or total joke housing market, Denver might be your best bet.

I love rain. I love Seattle. I lived there for a year, but husband isn’t as keen on the weather, although would go for me. Denver is looking fairly likely. I don’t mind some snow, know it well and downtown is all rebuilt from when I lived there and there is so much to do. I still have friends there as well. We shall see where life takes us. I heard on the news the other day that this was the coldest spring here since like 1800 something. Thanks, thanks for the welcome midwest. hahaha

Wendy looks so beautiful in this pic. I hope they have fun. There’s nothing like a weekend away just for parents.

JFC!!! I’ve noticed Lyft drivers are getting more and more chatty, asking too many questions, etc., but whatever. The guy I had just now took the absolute cake. First he lectured me about how climate change isn’t real, after we exchanged some pleasantries about the weather. Then it was government conspiracy theories, then it was something about people trying to destroy Bill Cosby, and he was talking about African American people in the most ignorant and offensive way. I don’t know wtf his agenda is. He’s from Algeria, which is Africa and also a dictatorship. I don’t know, but it was so goddamn offensive, I got out of the car at a stoplight and told him not to talk to passengers about this shit, it’s offensive and racist. Nothing he said made a lick of sense, and he was so pompous and condescending.

It’s pretty bad-ass that you actually got out.

Unfortunately I was a captive audience for most of the ride, but as soon as we got into a place with stoplights, I was out.
