Weekend Open Thread

We leave tomorrow morning super bright and early for our 12-day Missouri odyssey. This is actually the longest we will have ever been away with the kids (and the longest we’ve been away from the cats since our honeymoon). Now that the kids are getting older it’s starting to feel more doable to take longer trips away from home. Joanie still naps like 2-4 hours a day (and is unbearable if she misses a nap two days in a row!), so we aren’t quite ready for more exotic trips where we’d feel like we were missing out, working around her naps, but we’re getting there. This trip will feel like a good test run. We’re visiting three different places, with a mix of staying with friends, staying with my parents (for the bulk of the trip) and staying in a fancy cabin. When we get back, the kids have about a week and a half of summer break left and then school starts — for both of them! It’s been a really good summer, and I’m looking forward to enjoying the final few weeks. Hope you are too!

PS I got these scratch art notebooks to give to the kids on the airplane. I brought a pack with us when we were upstate last week and it was a huge hit.

Does anyone else have Nespresso? My mom got us a machine (makes espresso or coffee depending on the pod you put in), and I honestly think it’s the best coffee in the US. My mom knows coffee – for years she was making espresso in one of those Italian moka pots on the stove and frothing her own milk, then she switched to nespresso and my husband was like holy fuck this is good, so she bought him the machine because she’s obsessed. I ordered a 100-pod variety pack and I’ve had 3 cups today. It’s a gateway to cocaine.

My aunt has one and really likes it. We usually make a decaf to drink with dessert when we’re there for dinners. Definitely way better than a kuerig.

We have one and it’s fantastic. We also bought a milk steamer, so I’ve been having cappuccinos and lattes all summer. I’m keep trying to switch to tea to help with both calories and caffeine content, but I haven’t done it, yet.

Nespresso is ok for what it is. I would agree it’s probably best in the US having been there and tasted what you guys call coffee lol.

We had one. I find after a while, you notice that Nespresso has an after-taste. I agree that it’s better than Keurigs, but I still prefer my espresso maker or moka pot over my Nespresso. We pull it out now when we have guests over (like my parents) who will go through like 2-3 cups of coffee a day. They would decimate our nice espresso stash…and it’s a bit of a pain teaching them to use our espresso maker.

I do love the milk steamer though. My husband bought me one for my birthday 6 years ago and I still use it multiple times a week and it hasn’t broken yet!
