Weekend Open Thread

Hi, happy Friday! We got back from our trip to Missouri last night. We were gone nearly two weeks – the longest we’ve been away since having kids (it went well!) — and now I am tackling my long, post-vacation/back-to-school to-do list. Thanks for being understanding with my less frequent posting schedule these last few weeks as I’ve prioritized time with the family while the kids are home and we’ve been on the go and haven’t had much, if any, childcare help. School starts back up after Labor Day — including for Joanie who will be going to preschool for the first time! — and I’m looking forward to having a little more time for my own projects again.

In the meantime, what do you all have on tap in these remaining days of summer? After two weeks of no formal exercise (but plenty of biscuits and gravy), I want to get back on my bike this weekend, go for a jog or two, and maybe go to a Reiki workshop in my neighborhood. I’m also looking forward to a few more picnics in the park with friends, checking out the new (to NYC) Color Factory with the kids, maybe reading this book I’ve been hearing great things about, and doing whatever I can to help ensure a blue wave this November (if you, too, are interested in doing this, a couple organizations to help you: Swing Left, and Sister District).

Have a great weekend!

Oh, and Anthropologie is having a 20% off sale today (including an extra 20% off sale prices) if you’re in the mood for end-of-summer/ early fall shopping. How adorable is this skirt?!

I am very intrigued by the color factory! I’m actually considering trying to go see it.

I’ve been job searching, visiting daycares and preschools and trying to figure my life out. A second income would be very helpful. My son is four. Originally my plan was to go back to work after he goes to school, but I have an itch. Everytime I get close to a decision, I realize my days with them are numbered. It’s hard being a woman/mom and making decisions.

Luckily, I have been slaying interviews, which has been a bit of a confidence booster.

The next few weeks are going to be rough for me and my family for other reasons. ❤️

My bday is soon which I really don’t care about beyond refusing to cook or clean that day but husband and I are apart for it in different states and I just want to go home and hang out with him, eat pizza in bed or something. I did already receive a few awesome gifts and get to spend the day with my family so that is awesome.

My cousin is my mini me and i haven’t seen her in 6 months so I cannot wait!! Last time i saw her (she is in 8th grade now) I picked her up like i always do and mentioned that one day soon she’d be too big. She replied “nope even on my wedding day you’ll pick me up and hug me”. I cry just writing that…so can’t wait to see her!! We like to do crafts so maybe some bracelet making on my bday with them.

Beyond that excited to get home and enjoy to soon to come cooler weather. Oh dear and I have to plan Xmas coming back. Forgot about that.

Since I am back in SoCal for a few more weeks there will be shopping, IN N OUT, some time by the beach and seeing friends. Also getting in with my hair girl for sure! Not looking so cute after so long without her, i used the root touch up kit and she may kill me but I’m so grey!!

Preschool sounds so fun Wendy. Both kids now out of the house for part of the day! I think for the first day or so I’d find myself aimlessly wandering around the house not sure what to do.

Heading home to my parents in Minneapolis for the weekend. Happy to do a whole lot of nothing especially as the D-Day gets closer. Wendy: are the kids on no sugar for the next few weeks haha!!?

Funny story: Addie Pray calls my husband Radiostar because he has a deeper voice (and he says a Radio-face but I do not agree). Anyway, we were in a meeting together and he was talking and the baby was going nuts! It totally recognizes him! I almost had to tell him to shut up because it was getting so uncomfortable.

We put the kibosh on the rest of our summer plans. My FIL had two major surgeries this week, the most recent of which was the amputation of his leg following the (predicted) failure of the earlier surgery. This makes four major surgeries for him over the past year, and it’s taken a mental and emotional toll on him, my husband, and our family. We’ll be spending most of our free time over the next month visiting him in hospital and trying to keep his spirits up.

Hi Wendy. I found this seriously nuts post, that I thought would serve you as reference for future “bridezilla” posts. Cracked-up batshit crazy.

I read that earlier this morning on a different site. It can’t be real, can it?!?

I don’t know ktfran. For me, it smells like seriously realness. Drama bitch as fuck. Unfortunately I relate having experienced this kind of behaviours from random people and relatives. So many years of thrash television has got into this. I mean, really? 1500 USD per head for a “lifetime party”? This girl is seriously nuts and should be checked by a doctor.
