Weekend Open Thread

Happy weekend! This weekend, I’m looking forward to the DW picnic in Central Park tomorrow and excited to meet some of you there. One of my best friends, Chad, is also coming to visit for the weekend (not sure if he’ll come to the picnic, but we’ll see). Also, it’s the first weekend of June, which is one of my favorite times of the whole year because it means the whole summer is just starting to open up like a beautiful poppy.

Yesterday, I (mostly) finished planting/designing our terrace for the summer (we have a really nice-sized terrace by NYC standards — big enough for a two-person glider, two chairs, a couple small tables, and plenty of window boxes and plants). I anticipate spending loads of time out there over the coming months, especially with one certain little boy (and Drew and the cats, of course).

What are your summer plans?

My husband just renovated our front patio, and it’s amazing! I plan on spending most of my summer sitting out there, drinking wine, tending to my plants, talking to the neighbors and watching nature.
A really cute 2 year old girl lives next door, and she’s obsessed with our cats and my scooter/my husband’s motorcycle, so her dad has been bringing her over every night for the past week or 2 to pet the cat and look at the bikes. I love hanging out with her. They’re moving in July, so I’m sad I won’t get to watch her grow up.

That said, I’m psyched for the picnic tomorrow! I can’t wait to meet everyone. Also, I don’t know if anyone remembers, but a few months ago I posted in the forum about reaching out to and old friend to reconnect- well, I did and things have been going well. She lives in NYC, so we’re going to try to meet up after the picnic. I’m hoping that goes ok.

My big summer plans include visiting my sister who is due (with a baby!) in August and attending a friends wedding. This is the year of the babies in my family, there will be 4 born between June and October this year. In between there will be Nationals games, day trips to the beach, and using my boyfriend’s pool as much as possible. Hopefully we’ll squeeze some tent camping in there as well. I actually bought a day planner for home so I could start writing everything down as my summer was filling up fast!

I’m getting super excited for the picnic as well. Just not excited to wake up before 5AM to catch my early train.

I just finished planting my garden last weekend, which is in a much sunnier spot than last year, and will hopefully give me lots of fresh veggies.

I’m planning on traveling lots. I’m of to San Francisco this weekend, then to Austin, then to Portland. Then, I shall hang out at home, relax, and enjoy the warm sun.

Fuck, I typed out this whole thing & then my hands spazzed out on the keyboard & it all got deleted. Basically: no big summer plans, hope to travel (with boyfriend but also hopefully with friends at some point?), & also he’s (boyfriend, what was I calling him? Cyrano? hahah) catsitting for a neighbor the whole summer, & the neighbor is letting us live in the house if we want. So that’ll be weird if we do that?

Anyway, @Bethany see you at the train station! I’m way excited for the picnic, & looking forward to meeting everybody who’s going 🙂

I love summer. It’s the best.
Hope everyone has fun at the picnic! Unfortunately all of our money is going toward baby-makin’ at the moment, so I won’t be there. Have some extra fun for me.

In 2 years, my boyfriend and I have never gone on vacation together because our work schedules don’t really line up with each other. So we’re going to Nashville for the next 4 days and I’m very excited! I’ve been to Chattanooga and Knoxville a bunch but have only driven through Nashville, so i’m looking forward to seeing something new. I may even be more excited for our drive tonight because I think there is something quaint and romantic about driving late at night in open rural roads, listening to our favorite music. This summer has already been filled with weddings, a bachelorette party, high school/college graduations, and barbecues. While it’s all fun, I’m tired and need a nice relaxing break.

    Happy weekend!

My gf’s little sister is coming into town (from California) for two weeks in August and we’re taking her to look at colleges. Specifically, the college my gf works at (she’d get free tuition) and Princeton, because her sister’s a freaking genius. So excited!

No trips planned, sadly. I’ll likely end up making an impromptu funeral trip to CA with my gf though, depending on her aunt’s health.

My company gets busy during the summers because we are an educational company, which means we are busy preparing things for fall semesters. I’m still hourly, which I actually really like cause I have the same benefits and schedule leniency as the salaried folks, BUT when I work late I make more. And it’s always nice to make more! I am going to NYC in July and San Francisco/Napa in August and I’m excited for both, but cause those trips will be a bit pricey on my budget, I don’t think I’ll be able to go to a wedding with my boyfriend in August. I’m a bit disappointed that this is the first boyfriend I’ve had to show off (err, I mean, have fun with, haha) at a wedding in almost 2 years and neither of us can make it to the other’s events due to schedule/travel/money. Oh well. Should be fun anyway!!! I’ve been looking forward to summer for months!!!

Have fun at the picnic everyone! I really wish I could come. I’m excited to spend my summer with my husband home and E. Lots of walks and beach time ahead of us. We have a decent sized veggie garden and are having home grown broccoli with dinner tonight. My husband sold some of our rhubarb to the local grocery store which I think is pretty cool.

I hope that everyone that attends the picnic today has a wonderful time! I wish that I could be there, but I’m at work until 8 pm. I will be with you in spirit 🙂

oh god you guys i had the funniest flight yesterday- so this guy sat by me and my boss. and somehow, i dont even remember how, we started talking about our jobs, ect- and this guy works for the company that owns smirnoff, crown royal, ciroc, some whiskeys i dont know, some scotches i dont know, guiness beer, and some other ones. so he is telling us all about how its made, and how like some whiskeys are just vodka with flavoring and some are legit, and we talked about the BAC level for driving potentially being lowered, and we talked about the tequila shortage in the coming years… it was so funny. the flight went by so fast! lol

my spring and summer has been so busy and crazy and probably will continue to be. i have already had friends come out for a long weekend, went to denver for a long weekend, jakes mother is coming to see us for a long weekend (first time EVER in 4 years, kind of a big deal), my mom and sister are coming out for the 4th of july, and ill probably still be travelling a lot for work and stuff too. so busy! also, jakes birthday is in like 2 weeks, ugh. i have lame ideas for a gift. and then his neice’s first birthday is in august (still summer, right? lol).

also i am very jealous of the DW picnic happening today. i almost looked into what it would take to rent a car and drive there from PA after work yesterday, but i need to save money for when jakes mom is here and i had to come home anyway because my poor cat has a bladder infection! my poor, poor cat and i feel SO TERRIBLE because she has probably had this for a long time…. ugh.

Wendy that picture of Jackson just made my heart melt. I hope my future offspring and my far cat get along that well!

We don’t have any concrete summer plans really. Just to enjoy it as a newly married couple, drinking lots of yummy drinks and taking a few weekend trips around FL. We do have a weekend beach trip planned with his parents too. Oh, and redecorating our apartment. That is a very big summer goal.

I got surprised with breakfast in bed and a bouquet that matches our wedding flowers this morning. Gah.

It felt like summer today. I got up early and hit the farmers market, and came home and made lemonade (in the Vitamix, num num) and gazpacho and ate fresh strawberries. It feels so decadent!

The rest of the weekend is lounging, a little bit of work, and enjoying open windows and the breeze off of the lake. I can’t wait to read about the picnic, someone’s going to open a thread in the forums, yes?

Lots of little things going on here, just trying to make it through my signing final in about two weeks, then possibly doing some yard work. Then I’ll be work as much as possible, and finishing up any last minute things for our wedding, and getting married July 23, which should be right around the time my religion class is finishing up too. (which totally reminds me, I need to get on my homework for this week, yikes, I’m behind!) We also decided to take a little staycation/honeymoon a few hours from us, in a little tourist town, probably just a few nights together. But we haven’t really done anything like that, so we figure we’ll splurge a little on ourselves.

After that, just more work before the Fall semester starts in September. Also, I plan on taking a trip to Arizona in early September (still considered summer!) to go see one of my best friends whom I haven’t seen in three years. I think that’s really all. I did manage to get all of my wedding things done that I needed to. Well, we still need a suit for him, and I’m trying to get a photographer, but I have a few prices from people (the lower prices are what we want to pay, but the photos aren’t good, and the photographers who we love are like, double the cheaper ones. :Sigh:) so we’ll just have to narrow it down.

I hope you all have fun at the picnic, I’m so jealous of you all! Happy weekend and national Pride month, everyone!
