For those of you who wondered how to make the Baileys Martinis I mentioned in last weekend’s open thread, wonder no more! Here’s a handy how-to video to get you going. Next, I shall show you how to make my other holiday favorite — vodka gimlets. Hmm, vodka. (Here’s a link to my fave martini glasses — durable, simple, inexpensive, and best of all, BIG!).
Speaking of holiday drinking, this is the big weekend for it. Saturday night we have two holidays parties we’re hitting up, which for a couple of middle-aged parents like us is a Big Night Out. I think we may even stay out past midnight. Maybe even later! I got a new dress. One of the parties has a theme this year and the theme is “silver,” so naturally, I had to order three silver dresses during the Cyber Monday sales in hopes that at least one of them would look decent on me. One was too big, one was too small (despite being the same size) and sort of made me look like a sad mother-of-the-bride who wishes she was still the bride, and the third one, luckily, was just right. I’m so excited to wear it! I’m gonna wear it with shimmery hose and silver heels and my vintage white faux fur coat, naturally.
Sunday morning we have a 2-year-old birthday party, which makes three in four weeks and we have one more to go to next weekend and then birthday season is over… at least for six months. Side note: the thing about parenthood that no one tells you and you don’t really know until you’re in it is that for every child you have, there will be six months of the year that you are at a birthday party nearly every weekend. The parties will start three months before your child’s birthday and go until three months after. I imagine that once your child starts school and has a wider social circle, the parties will be year-round. You would think this might be a terrible thing — to sacrifice so many weekends to kid parties, but the reality is you’ll be sort of grateful because you need SOMETHING to keep your toddler entertained anyway and if you can be around other adults at the same time and maybe even some alcoholic beverages, then, hey, it’s better than freezing or sweating your balls off (depending on the season) at the neighborhood playground for the fiftieth time that week. Anyway, we have this 2-year-old birthday party the morning after our Big Night Out and I’m thinking the only thing that will get us through is the hope of mimosas for the parents while the kids eat cake and act like little lunatics.
Also! Just a head’s up, the site will be down for maintenance for a short bit on Monday morning. There was a WordPress upgrade yesterday that has caused a few issues that you’ve probably noticed today, so Lindsey, my IT guru, will be working on those on Monday as well as re-sizing the site in Chrome browser windows, which some of you requested. All of this costs big bucks, so please help support the site by visiting my holiday gift guides and making some purchases through my affiliate links! Thanks, y’all, and happy holidays!
