Weekend Open Thread and Links

Hello! I don’t even know what to say. This has been one of the strangest, scariest weeks ever and I know it’s just the tip of the iceberg. I hope all of you are safe and healthy and managing to handle these rapid changes with as much grace and patience and strength as you can muster. I’m grateful for this DW community — for the camaraderie and the small amount of income it allows me to make at home while I figure out, like a lot of you, how to juggle the demands of around-the-clock parenting, practice some self-care, and contribute in whatever ways I can to my various communities. It feels weird to wish anyone a nice weekend, so instead I’ll wish you moments of peace and calm. Here are some links that may give you some ideas for weathering this oncoming storm:

    It’s like a terrible nightmare.

Thanks for this site, Wendy. It’s a comforting place for me on the internet.

Hi! Thanks for the links. I’ve really been enjoying this site and I appreciate it so much right now. I like the comments about dining something positive, about how there’s nothing positive and it’s the wrong time for that…pretty much everything that everyone is feeling is comforting as I’m all over the place myself. I go from mostly positive and calm to panicky cold sweats and shaking…if I let myself think about it too much, it’s paralyzing.

    Stay well!

I think a lot of us can relate to those roller-coaster feelings right now. I am feeling mostly calm the last couple days. A lot of my earlier anxiety was tied to feeling like others were not taking this seriously and putting themselves and everyone else in danger with their continued behavior unchanged. Now that so many communities are essentially on lock down and people have been forced to change their behaviors, even if they still don’t take this seriously, I’m not as anxious anymore. I know that things are going to get very bad though and I’m bracing for that. But my little family is healthy and safe and pretty cocooned in our home that we only leave for occasional grocery runs and maybe a walk (though we aren’t even doing that anymore, getting fresh air on our deck instead).
