Weekend Open Thread: Do You Have Dear Wendy Dreams?

First, a quick reminder that I am accepting donations for our Occupy Sandy drive through tomorrow night. Thank you SO MUCH to those who have already donated, both through Paypal and through the Amazon wish list. If you don’t get a personal thank you from me (because I don’t have all of your email addresses), please know that I see your donation in my Paypal account and it is appreciated. As of noon today, we were up to almost $800 and DW readers had purchased over $750 of supplies through Amazon. I will use the cash donations, as well as my Amazon commissions (from the wish list sales), to buy supplies Sunday morning and deliver them immediately to the main Occupy Sandy hub. I’ll update with a final tally, as well as photos of what we bought. Again, thank you, and if you want to make a donation, please Paypal me at wendy@dearwendy.com — every little bit helps!

Just so you understand a little more what an epic humanitarian crisis we’re dealing with and how much the volunteers at Occupy Sandy are doing, here’s a message from their Facebook page:

Kids out in Rockaway Park have been living without heat, hot water, electricity and train service for 9 days. They are out of touch with their friends and family in other areas. They are out of contact with television & internet. They are getting warm burning charcoal on the streets. Because, well, why not? We spoke with a man on the street in front of YANA Community Center that told us that they were expecting the electricity to be restored by 2 am in two large buildings. He said that they pulled 3 bodies out of a building up the block and he suspected there would be more discovered when they turn the power back on in the other buildings. We’ve been systematically going, block by block, with teams of volunteers, canvassing the buildings, finding elderly people, getting them medications they need, giving them hot meals, candles, flashlights, batteries, whatever they need. This was not supposed to be our job. We dont #GotThis, actually. Many of the key organizers are getting worn out, no one is getting paid. We are all working frantically in this disaster response because it needs to be done. Because if it doesn’t get done, who will save these people? Like the man I spoke to tonite said, “it’s a labor of love”

An observation from another occupy sandy organizer when asked what they felt about FEMA’s shutting down for the day yesterday during a snowstorm:
“We are not getting paid to do their jobs while they are getting paid to not do their jobs.”

OK, moving on and changing the topic from a living nightmare to sleep-time dreams, there was a comment yesterday from EttaKit (great name, btw) about how I was in her dream and we were zombie killers together (awesome). It got me wondering how many other people have had DW-related dreams. I’ve seen a few discussions about them in the forums, but I bet a lot more of you have DW dreams you’ve never mentioned. And now’s your big chance! Whom do you dream about? What was going on? Anyone else dream about DW-superhero zombie killers? Spill it!

I’m super embarassed…but I had a DW dream once. I forget what happened, but I know I met Wendy in it and I was really excited!

My DW dreams usually are more about the topics touched on here, not so much the people (I have really mundane dreams).

I told Catsmeow this after it happened, but I had a dream that she was having a baby….and I’ve had dreams about talking with DW people.

Lately I’ve been having a lot of crazy stress dreams. Like action movies playing out where I’m escaping some bad guy or something.

You hadn’t actually given birth yet in my dream – you were just getting ready to – so, maybe it was a cat. Who knows?

All the fucking time! My dreams often involve me running into Wendy on the streets and approaching her like a star-struck fan only to have her say “fuck off” or something – like a celebrity who just wants to eat her sandwich in peace, man! (I’ve actually met Wendy and she’s nice, so I’m not sure why I dream that.)

@Cats, I think it’s time you spilled that dream you had of me …

I totally had a sex dream about Addie Pray.

      It was pretty hot.

…I like how you clarify AP so everyone knows what she’s referencing, but then fail to give us any details 😉 haha

        haha, you want details? Hmm…

I was driving at night and superrr tired and I decided to pull over and find a place to sleep. There was this enormous barn off the highway lit up with neon lights. Apparently it was a hotel of sorts. So I got a room and went to bed.

Apparently AP was staying there for some sort of work conference. I had seen her in the lobby when I was checking in. After I went to my room and fell asleep, she came into my room and woke me up by sexing me. She was dominant and told me what to do, but she mixed in all her dom sex talk with the mushy crap she says about her charming fucker, so it would be like “Fuck me harder you fuzzy wuzzy rainbow-farting bunny bear.” Or something.

ME TOO! I’m glad this thread is here because I never would’ve admitted this otherwise!

Last week I dreamt I ran into Wendy on the street corner by my job as I was walking uptown to charge my laptop because there was no power in Manhattan! Ah Hurricane Sandy inspired dreams that don’t make sense bc Wendy lives in Brooklyn and thus did not have to walk 45+ blocks to charge her electronics for four days in a row. She was also pushing a baby stroller and was with another lady with a baby stroller. Oh and it was sunny out and we were all in summer outfits (my subconscious refuses to accept winter apparently). But she was nice and said hi, in my dream! And then I left to charge my laptop. SO HA, ADDIE PRAY!

I saw that comment & got so excited, haha! It sucks I can’t remember the details anymore, but I’ve DEFINITELY had DW dreams. In one, I was walking around some big parking lot in the rain, because that’s where Wendy supposedly was & we were meeting up? And in others, people have come up (I think JK?) & it’s mostly about stuff happening to them, but I’m not necessarily in the dream myself.

I think I mostly have DW dreams in the morning as I’m snoozing my alarm (probably because I’m thinking about going into work & reading this site…) So sometimes I’ll wake up with random commenter names swirling around in my head, but not recalling the dreams.

Actually I had my first DW dream a few days ago. All I remember is that Wendy and I were studying abroad in China. And then at the end of the semester we were interviewing with some mean guy for a job. I think maybe Wendy got the job and I was pissed. Please note that I have been out of college for over 6 years.

I have never had a DW dream. But, I don’t tend to dream very much. I typically just have nightmares, haha.

Anyone else really glad this week is over? Nothing awful happened, but I’m still really glad it’s over. Also it’s been freezing, alright, not really, but it’s been so cold here. I’m not going to tell you the high today because most of you will make fun of me and my now thin southern blood. Apparently anything less than 73 and I need a parka now.

I haven’t had a DW dream but I am having really vivid pregnancy dreams. Such as last night I dreamt that my husband hit our friend (pregnant in the dream, not in RL) with his truck, drove off to some weird hotel that we were all staying at, and then got all pissy at me when I yelled at him for it. He said he didn’t realize he ran her over and everyone should just be fine with that answer. My husband is actually a very sensitive-to-others-emotions person and would feel bad just thinking a bad thought about anyone. I have no idea where it came from.

I tend to have vivid dreams anyway, so I haven’t noticed a difference now that I’m pregnant. Last night I dreamt that my husband was worried that one of his friends from college was becoming racist. I have no idea where that one came from.

How far along are you? I found months 3-4 were the worst for dreams. Most of the time I didn’t even feel like I had slept they were so real and busy.

I’m about to start my second trimester. I hope my dreams don’t disrupt my sleep, I have a hard enough time sleeping through the night as is.

ooh! ooh! I remembered another DW dream I had. Wendy had a huuuuuge party at her house for everyone, and I mean EVERYONE. We were all there, and oddly, we knew who everyone was without asking or wearing name tags or anything.

And! The highlight of the party was when Budj proposed to Addie and she said….. YES! (This was before Texty von Charming Fucker came along).

Another one was that I lived closer to sweetsandbeats and we could hang out more rather that text ask the time 🙁

Nope. No, DW dreams, sadly… But I can tell you all that I have dreams that break a certain myth. You know — how if supposedly die in your dreams you die in real life? And that this is how and why so many people wake up right before and blah blah blah.

    Not true. Total bullshit.

I often die in my dreams with alarming regularity. And the dream merely goes on and on with me dead, just watching everything objectively as if the dream weren’t a dream, but some silly movie. It used to freak me out, but now it’s just mildly interesting.

I used to do the same thing all the time, and no one would believe me!! I sort of think it’s related to depression, since depressed people are often playing games with themselves about what it would be like. It just comes out in dream form.

That makes sense, theattack. I am certainly never even remotely upset to die in my dreams. It’s always just a kind of: “Oh, well…” Oh, I’d wake up disturbed afterwards, but I was never phased by it during the actual dream.

I’ve never died in a dream or come close to dying – but people are always dying in my dream, and I wake up in a panic that it was real. This weekend I dreamt I was in my car and my mom was standing at the passenger side door, leaning down a bit so she could talk to me through the window. And all of a sudden I could see a huge truck speeding down the road and before I could shout “mom, look out!” the truck bull-dozed right over her and she was gone in a flash. I could not get back to sleep after that dream. It’s always my mom or siblings or nephews/niece who die in my dreams. I can’t take it sometimes. But me? I never die – I just am never able to act fast enough to save them.

I realize the dream post is now over but I just woke up early (5 am, can’t go back to sleep – these bad dreams serve as my alarm clock each morning) bc of another bad dream – my 3 year old nephew got attacked by a crocodile. Crocodiles were in the park and one snuck up on him while he sat playing in the grass. I saw it all but couldn’t get to him in time before the croc chumped on him. These nightmares are messing with me bad!

I’ve had two or three DW dreams, but I can’t remember them right now. Though this morning I barely woke up because P started trying to cuddle with me, but he kept saying “Mmmm” in his sleep over and over again, which turned into a dream about how we owned a business making cheese, and we did that by cuddling, and he was tasting it because it was delicious. I woke up sort of shouting about how he couldn’t eat all the cheese. haha

I guess this post got to my head because CatsMeow made it into my dream last night. I was showing her monologues from SNL and I thought they were really funny but she was not amused so I felt really lame
