Weekly Picks

Wendy’s Weekly Picks,” is a feature in which I highlight stuff I like or recommend in the worlds of fashion, gift ideas, home decor, makeup, websites, entertainment, and recipes. Of course, much of the stuff I link to will be affiliate products, which means I’ll receive a commission on any click-throughs or purchases you make through the affiliate links. As always, I appreciate your support! Here are my favorite finds this week:

In a recent open thread, there was a discussion about cool pool floats, and OMG, my favorite is on sale right now. You can get four for $16, so you and three friends never have to fight over the donut. Fun!

Last week, it was so hot I could barely function as a human. A woman I crossed on the street said to no one in particular, “It’s too hot to be alive,” and I completely agreed. I was especially concerned with the sun burning my skin, despite the excessive layering of sunblock and the visor I wear, and I mentioned to Drew how I really needed a parasol. So, he got me one! How sweet is that?

Friends of ours had us over for dinner the other night where, for the second time this summer, I was blown away by how amazing the meat tasted that the husband grilled. He’s from Ecuador, so grilling meat is kind of in his blood, but he also gets help from a Himalayan salt block, which he swears by. All he does is let the meat — in this case, steak — sit on the block (on top of a kitchen counter) for about 10 minutes, flip it and let it sit for another 10 minutes and then cook the meat on the grill, without any other seasoning or sauce or anything. And it tastes incredible! Like, some of the best-tasting grilled meat ever. (And here’s a Himalayan salt block-themed cookbook).

Joanie turned two three weeks ago and she got a lot of great gifts, but this, which wasn’t even a birthday gift but was something we gave her last week when the zipper of her diaper bag broke, has proven to be her very favorite possession (ever).

I need to have this game in my life.

Omg, why didn’t I know this makeup brush cleaning mat existed? Must have!

Nordstrom is having their big anniversary sale, including my favorite bra and underwear, and these pretty perfect wedge booties.

Oh heeyyy, those donut floats are just for your drinks, like a floating coozie. The real tube (which is like 4 feet wide) is usually around $23 I think.

We went down to the Cape again with some friends and got more floats: a Margarita, a beer, and a rubber duck with a snarky face.

Also, my parents work a 4-day week and basically turned over the responsibility to younger people… they go to the Cape every weekend, and yesterday spent 90 minutes floating at the state park. People asked them where they got the watermelon.

I have the smaller version of that makeup cleaning mat and I love it! It makes cleaning my brushes a million times faster and easier. Definitely recommend.

I purchased “Drunk, Stoned or Stupid” and ending up returning it to Amazon. We were hosting a party and I looked at the cards beforehand, I didn’t think the game lived up to the hype or reviews. I ended up buying “Exploding Kittens” instead. It’s our new favorite party game 🙂

I highly recommend Telestrations as a party game. It was absolutely hilarious, especially if you’re playing with people who can’t draw.
