Wendy’s Picks

Gradys_Cold_Brew_Coffee_Concentrate_32_oz_grande_ce64d379-930d-4ac6-838a-19ef1a761799_largeWendy’s Weekly Picks,” is a feature in which I highlight stuff I like or recommend in the worlds of fashion, gift ideas, home decor, makeup, websites, entertainment, and recipes. Of course, many of the things I link to will be affiliate products, which means I’ll receive a commission on any click-throughs or purchases you make through the affiliate links. As always, I appreciate your support! Here are my favorite finds this week:

As I said in my last Wendy’s Picks, I recently started using this sunscreen on my face and I love it. For the rest of my body, I’ve started using this stuff and am equally impressed. I really like that it goes on really smoothly like lotion, disappearing into the skin and keeping it hydrated, moisturized, and protected from the sun. (I re-apply throughout the day, especially since I spend so much time outdoors with the kids, and have not had any burns or redness.) For the kids: this sunscreen remains my favorite (goes on fast, works well).

Back in March, I joined a fitness studio in my neighborhood. They have zumba and ballet and samba classes, but I go mostly for a barre class they offer, a 30-minute weight class focused on arms and shoulders, and a foam rolling class. I had never used a foam roller before and, wow, it hurts so good. And, hey, you don’t even need to take a class to get its benefits. You can buy a foam roller (this is the one we use in my class, but this one also looks great and is on sale) and then roll your hard, sore, tight muscles on it (on a floor or a wall or any flat surface) and slowly feel the tension loosen up a little bit.

I’ve mentioned my love of Grady’s cold brew coffee before, but now that it’s full-on summer, it’s worth mentioning again. The coffee is so good, so convenient (you can buy the concentrate already made, or buy the bean bags to brew yours overnight), and check it out — they have a brand new “pour and store” pouch that allows you to brew overnight and then dispense straight from the fridge for up to two weeks.

If cold brew isn’t your thing, let me turn your attention to Death Wish dark roast coffee. You’re welcome.

At noon, you can switch from coffee to booze, and though I haven’t tried these XXL Watermelon Shots yet, I am hoping to change that immediately. (Oh, hey, look at that: it’s 11:20 as I write this and I’m just about done with my coffee…)

As mentioned, it’s full-on summertime now, which means if I’m home and we don’t have company over, I’m pretty much just wearing some underwear and this (in a variety of colors), which is one of the most comfortable things I own and which also happens to be majorly marked down (select colors) with code SALETIME.

Remember when I went on and on about my bamboo memory foam pillows (which are on sale, fyi)? Well, they make a similar one for babies/toddlers too, and, since Joanie May got hers, she sleeps … like a baby (or, like you wish a baby would sleep).

Anthropologie is still having a Tag Sale, with 30% off all their sale items. I dare you to try this ensemble (because someone should and it probably won’t be me).

LOFT is also having a big (40% off) sale, so everyone should probably buy this dress. (Take note of the final sale items.)

Wendy, those are my favorite cotton V’s. I’m wearing one right now in fact. It’s one of the only things I’ll continue to buy from JCrew.

Curious: are you boycotting J. Crew?

Not really. I do think quality has gone down and prices have gone up, so I shop there less and less. There are a few basics I’ll still buy. Those t’s, because I still love them. They hold their shape. And I like their shorts.

My bridesmaid dress for my sis’s wedding was from JCrew. Super simple navy dress. One of the front seams ripped after the first wear, which was disappointing.

I do shop at Madewell a lot though… which I suppose is kind of silly.

Oh, and I’ll pick up something from Factory occasionally.

Actually, my biggest problem with JCrew, Gap, Banana, Loft, etc. is that there is always a sale. Or almost always. I wish they would sell clothes for their actual price and then occasionally have the good sale, instead of marking up and always being on sale. It seems like a silly practice.

I feel ya on the JCrew/Gap/Banana clothing and sale issues. I’m almost turned off by the fact that there’s almost always a ‘sale’ on. Especially because ‘sale’ seems to be an excuse to let the stores get a bit messy. Just sell the clothing at a good price.

I also find that most of the tees available in Canada are too sheer for daily wear and the fabric is so thin that they start getting tiny holes near where the shirt hits the waistline of my pants.

Should you have particularely sore hips, glutes, calves, or hamstrings, may I suggest the rumble roller. I find it works better for knots and those deeper muscles. I avoid using it on my back and IT bands because it is too painful.

I just subscribed and saved for the coffee beans!
Also, I love jello shots. My trick? don’t use water.. use ginger ale.
I tell everyone, especially runners, to get that roller. It’s the best and easy to use, especially on your IT band and glutes.
I second the COOLA sunscreen. Thats awesome stuff. I’ve also been using the Kiehl’s Serum sunscreen, but it used to only come in the chemical version. They just released a mineral version which I’m excited to try since the chemical one can burn me sometimes.

I second those bamboo pillows. I actually bought mine at a grocery store! But the price was the same as Amazon. My husband and I are going to a bed & breakfast for a quick one night get-away this weekend and I will take my pillow.

My husband is IN LOVE with Death Wish coffee. We even have a bumper sticker on our car.

I got those pillows the last time Wendy recommended them. I always like a firm support, but all of the firm pillows I’ve found in the past were super think and would give me headaches. I love the bamboo pillows, they’re the right mix of firm support while not being too big.
