“Wendy’s Weekly Picks,” is a feature in which I highlight stuff I like or recommend in the worlds of fashion, gift ideas, home decor, makeup, websites, entertainment, and recipes. Of course, many of the things I link to will be affiliate products, which means I’ll receive a commission on any click-throughs or purchases you make through the affiliate links. As always, I appreciate your support! Here are my favorite finds this week:
I visited Chicago over the weekend and stayed with my friend Chad, whose boyfriend is like the Mary Kay super salesperson of essential oils. He’s gotten everyone into them and now I’m a convert, too, having just bought my first ultrasonic cool mist whisper-quiet humidified essential aromatherapy oil diffuser which, if it works as well as Chad’s does, will leave my apartment, full of cats and kids and all their various scents, smelling as fresh as a field of daisies. Wild orange and patchouli daisies, that is.
While I was in Chicago, I got my hair cut by my friend’s amazing stylist (who’s cut Anna Wintour’s hair, y’all) and he used this magical hair dust powder to pouf my hair and make it all vavavoom (see photo), despite its sort of lackluster wintery drabness as of late.
The infinity scarf I’m wearing in that photo is from a couple years ago, but this one is similar and is 20% off with code LTLOVE. This one is similar, too, and it’s under five bucks – what?!
This vintage leather gym bag is gorgeous.
These earrings are super fun.
And because we need a bit of righteousness with our frills.

I love your haircut!
Dear Wendy February 2, 2017, 1:47 pm
Thanks!

I am going to buy that gym bag. I will love it forever.

Hair looks bangin’! I swear by hair powders. I’m also a fan of DryBar’s Triple Sec. #finehairproblems
Kate February 2, 2017, 2:21 pm
Drybar Triple Sec is a goddamn game changer!
MissDre February 5, 2017, 10:44 am
I tried that and hated it 🙁 I was so sad because it had such good reviews
Kate February 5, 2017, 11:05 am
Send me your unused portion!

Wendy, I know you’re losing your eyebrows and it’s upsetting, but I gotta say you have a striking enough face that it looks fine. Your eyes speak for themselves, you know? A hint of eyebrow is really all you need and you still look great. 🙂
Dear Wendy February 2, 2017, 2:16 pm
Aw, thank you, I appreciate that. All that hint of eyebrow you see is fake (I have to draw them on every morning), but I agree that if I have to have bald eyebrows then at least I have features that complement it in such a way that I am not scaring small children or anything.
Kate February 2, 2017, 2:23 pm
Everyone draws them on anyway. I think very few people have brows that just look fine. And yes, your hair looks fab!
Zombeyonce February 3, 2017, 12:58 pm
I totally have to draw in my eyebrows every day and I have plenty of them! It’s just that they’re so light only a bit of the sections next to my nose show in photos (you can even tell in my avatar), so I fill them in with a dark blonde shade every day just to look like your average person.

Couldn’t agree more.

I have the humidifier you listed in my office. It’s so silent and stylish. However, I”m not really sure how much moisture it really adds to the hair, but it does a good job of dispersing aromatic oils!
Lianne February 3, 2017, 9:27 am
Can you tell us more about this powder? Is it just a volumizer? Does it add texture, too? Help frizz? Have any hold? I am in the market for something new for a styling product after I use the damn brush and curling iron and am intrigued by magic powder. Currently I use nothing.
Kate February 3, 2017, 9:30 am
I’m intrigued by the powder too, but I def don’t think you need a volumizer or a texturizer. I’d recommend a hair oil. Bumble & Bumble Hairdresser’s Invisible Oil, Sebastian Dark Oil, Oribe Gold Lust, or even OGX Moroccan… just a drop and spread it through the ends and gently over the top layer of hair.
Kate February 3, 2017, 9:31 am
You also need to be using a heat protecting styling cream and/or oil in your damp hair before you style it with the damn brush.
Lianne February 3, 2017, 9:36 am
I usually use heat protecting cream – admittedly I didn’t this time b/c my hair was dry and I forgot! But when I am done styling I don’t use anything. Sometimes I use the OGX Kukui oil…I guess that’s enough?
Dear Wendy February 3, 2017, 9:48 am
It adds texture and volume and it does have hold! Im not sure about frizz-control and I’ve only used it when I blow-dried my hair, which generally takes care of the frizz for me.
Kate February 3, 2017, 9:53 am
Yeah, I could use that! Lianne has about 3x more hair than I do.
Lianne February 3, 2017, 10:00 am
I think I have 3 x more hair than everyone 😉 I would like some additional hold though. I will look into that and what you sent me, Kate. Thanks ladies!

I have baby fine hair and that dusting powder give me much needed texture. In fact, it’s the ONLY hair product I use bc everything else weighs my hair down or makes it greasy. So, you don’t just need thick, wavy gorgeous hair like Wendy. It works on super straight, baby fine locks, too 🙂
Dear Wendy February 3, 2017, 9:50 am
Oh, go on! (I have wavy hair, but it isn’t thick at all — it’s actually pretty fine. Pro tip: wearing a scarf gives the illusion of their being more!)

Please, be very careful with diffusing oils around cats! Particularly tea tree and citrus!! Do a quick search on ones that are cat safe- they can be really, really bad for them.
