“Wendy’s Weekly Picks,” is a feature in which I highlight stuff I like or recommend in the worlds of fashion, gift ideas, home decor, makeup, websites, entertainment, and recipes. Of course, many of the things I link to will be affiliate products, which means I’ll receive a commission on any click-throughs or purchases you make through the affiliate links. As always, I appreciate your support! Here are my favorite finds this week:
If you’re a woman resisting DT, you probably need this shirt.
My friend, Emily, was sporting her new Sonix sunnies on Instagram last week. I thought they were really cute, Might need to get a pair (these are my fave) — summer’s not too far off!
ModCloth is offering 30% off all orders of $100 or more from 2/22 12 a.m. ET through 2/23 11:59 p.m. ET. (Use code SPLURGE). Here are some ways you can spend $100: these hot heels, this asymmetrical jacket, this adorable sleeveless top (because warm weather is coming!), wide-leg black pants (wardrobe staple!), and this totally ridiculous bag because it will make people smile and that’s always a good thing.
A couple of weeks ago I wrenched my neck somehow. I don’t know exactly what did it — maybe carrying a 19-month old up and down three flights of stairs a few times a day finally did me in. I saw a chiropractor who confirmed: “You’re really jacked up,” and then she had me lie down as she put all these heated neck wraps on me and then left me alone for twenty minutes before she gave me an adjustment — which, oh my God, hurt so bad. Anyway, those twenty minutes on the bed with all those heated neck wraps were like the most peaceful twenty minutes I’ve had in a long time, so I went online and bought a couple of neck wraps myself — this one and this one, both really great — and I have to say: pretty solid substitute. If you have neck or shoulder issues, I highly recommend these.
I bought myself this shirt a couple weeks ago and it’s one of the softest things I’ve worn. Plus, Drew likes it on me, so that’s a bonus.
Have you tried Moses Sleeper cheese before? It’s basically crack in dairy form, and if you’re having the same spring-like temps we’ve been having here in NYC, you might have picnics on your mind. You can’t go wrong with some bubbly, a baguette and some Moses Sleeper cheese. And really, you don’t need a picnic or even anyone else to enjoy this stuff. A hardboiled egg, a tangerine, some crackers and some Moses Sleeper sounds like a perfect solo lunch to me. Oh, and look at that — it’s lunch time!

I feel like I need to go back through your picks because according to my new job, plain solid colored t-shirts don’t count as business casual so I need new tops. And I hate being uncomfortable so I have no idea where to start.

Banana Republic is a good option for business casual clothes, and they’re having a 40% off sale right now. I know you shy away from button-down shirts for the same reason I do, so here are a few alternative options for you (and remember: 40% off):
And I know you’re a budget shopper who’d rather spend money on other stuff than work clothes, so try Target, too. Here are a few options:

Awesome thanks! Now I have my evening planned out 🙂

I just got 3 work tops at the Banana sale. Only one is a button down, more for interviews. The other two are totally shaped like tee-shirts. They both have short sleeves and you pull them over your head. They’re loose-fitting and can be worn tucked into a skirt OR untucked over pants or jeans. They are printed, not solid, but you can wear a solid cardigan over.

Honeybeenicki – I also get a lot of tops from Target from work, and I’d also recommend TJ Maxx or Marshalls. I work there part time and get a ton of nice flowy shirts (because I have a large chest that doesn’t like button up tops) that look professional. We’ve got a ton of new stuff in our store for Spring so I’m sure a store local to you would as well. Good luck and happy shopping!

I like the ones Wendy linked!
I got this

100% of profits to planned parenthood. They ship internationally – looking forward to my new hoodie.

Just de-lurking to highly recommend that you see a physical therapist for your neck problem. While very rare, chiropractic adjustments carry a risk for causing a stroke. Also, good physical therapy has much more evidence supporting it.

Wendy I need to see a chiro so badly. Your description may have just tipped the scales to get me to actually call one and make an appt.
Also, YES to picnics. And YES to cheese.

I’ve always wondered about the sizing for ModCloth. Is it more juniors or missy sizing? Would I wear the same size I wear at stores like Gap or Banana Republic?
ktfran February 22, 2017, 11:29 am
Ooh, good question! I’ve never ordered from there because I didn’t know about the sizes either.
I do know my sisters order from Modcloth, but they’re a lot more shapely than I am in that they actually have hips and boobs and butt. I do not.
Kate February 22, 2017, 12:13 pm
I’ve ordered from there and find it pretty normal / true to size. I think Gap and Banana run big. I would tend to size down a bit there, but don’t feel the need to at Modcloth.
Kicia February 22, 2017, 12:14 pm
I’ve ordered from Modcloth a lot. They carry a ton of different brands so their sizing guide doesn’t really help. Your best bet is to read reviews to get an idea on how things fit. Modcloth does list the length of individual items which is helpful for taller people.

I’m coveting the rose gold ones too.

That cheese is from my home state (also home of Bernie Sanders)! Also try Cabot’s Jasper hill cave aged cloth bound cheddar if you can.
