Wendy’s Picks

Wendy’s Weekly Picks,” is a feature in which I highlight stuff I like or recommend in the worlds of fashion, gift ideas, home decor, makeup, websites, entertainment, and recipes. Of course, much of the stuff I link to will be affiliate products, which means I’ll receive a commission on any click-throughs or purchases you make through the affiliate links. As always, I appreciate your support! Here are my favorite finds this week:

This brand of Jeans is underrated. I wore a pair, similar to these, all summer and got lots of compliments (they’re super comfy in addition to being cute). Using my birthday discount code, I bought these last week and like them just as well (plus – gold polkadots!). Tip: I always size down (at least one size, and sometimes two) in this brand as it runs a little big.

Oh, and look what I found — a ring holder to match my new jeans! Is it too early to start talking about stocking stuffer ideas? Because, come one, how sweet are these ceramic ring cones?

Bloomingdale’s has a big sale going on — save 25% on anything marked with the “Friends” promotional code — and I thought it would be a good opportunity to buy a new winter coat since I’ve had the same day-to-day one for seven years. I chose a few I thought I might order to try on (because the likelihood that I’ll be in Manhattan in the next week or two with time to go shopping is basically nill), but when I realized they all looked pretty identical to the one I already owned (which I’ve maintained well with regular dry cleanings, and alterations as needed), I thought maybe I don’t need a different coat after all. But maybe you do! May I suggest this one? And this one (which is the same brand as my coat that has held up for years)? And this?

Here’s a picture of my friend’s toes. (Lesley, don’t kill me for posting a picture of your toes — they’re cute!). See how her nail polish looks professionally applied? It’s not! It’s Dazzle Dry, a fancy base coat and top coat that gives polish that spa-quality appearance. Word on the street is that this stuff maintains manicures and pedicures for weeks with no chipping. In that case, I’d say it’s worth it’s hefty price tag.

I’m loving Sephora’s new Weekly Wow feature, in which several products are marked down for a week. This Tarte contouring set is my pick this week — the colors are warm and neutral, the brand is always great, the reviews are glowing, and the sale price is an awesome deal.

By the way, the place that we’re in contract to buy (we close in 3-1/2 weeks) will have a “bonus” room, which we plan to use as a den/office/guest room. We’re on the hunt for a stylish sleeper sofa that is both comfy as a couch and a bed. Does such a thing exist? Does anyone have any recommendations? (I’m open to a wide range of prices since timing will be on our side to maybe score a great Black Friday deal).

The ones at Crate and Barrel are quite good.. especially if you add an egg crate topper from Ikea

The sofa beds from Crate and Barrel do have good reviews. But we got a regular sofa from C&B about 7 years ago and while it initially was comfortable, within two years, it was a super saggy, shapeless eyesore. When we moved into our current apartment four years ago, we gave it away to a theater company to use in a show they where they needed a couch. So now I’m just leery about getting sofas from C&B again, despite the very favorable reviews.

Would you consider a daybed instead? My parents had a daybed (twin-size couch/bed) with a twin size trundle (second bed under the first that rolls out)… but the trundle popped up to be bed height. So you can have two twins or push them together and make a pseudo-king.

It’s a little weird because two twins pushed together isn’t exactly like sleeping in a king (there’s a crack) but you can use regular mattresses which are much more comfortable than those skinny pull-out mattresses.

Elements of Style did a post a while ago showing some very fashionable daybeds. We were considering for our guest room. Surprisingly, it’s big enough for a queen and desk and room to spare.
