Wendy’s Picks

I got a sample of this lotion the other day, and if this is what Brazil smells like, I need to move there yesterday. Bonus: the lotion is super moisturizing too!

I need this shirt. Now more than ever. (This one is awesome, too).

I don’t think I have the hips to pull off the high-waisted, cropped pants style that all the impossibly thin and stylish women in NYC are wearing this fall, but maybe you do, and if you do, I bet you’d look hot in these.

I’ve had my eye on these beautiful ankle boots for a few weeks, hoping they’d go on sale soon. They’re not on a sale, but if I sign up for the company newsletter, I can save 20%, and when you get as many political campaign emails as I get, maybe it’s nice to get a nice email about boots to mix things up. If you also like cute boots, here’s a link where you can save $25 on a purchase (and I save $25 too!).

Kate posted a picture on Instagram the other day of her new scrunchie (with a modern twist) and I thought it was so cute. I also love this headband!

I don’t know what that smells like and the Beach may be different -but Sao Paulo smells of diesel.

This doesn’t smell of diesel, I promise!

I tried to find the scrunchie my mom bought at Anthropologie so I could get more of them. She bought a set of 2, kept the solid navy one and gave me the printed one. It is silky and knotted and has *small* tails on it. It’s like the one Lara Jean has in “All the Boys I’ve Loved Before” on Netflix.

The scarf ones are really cute too, like vintage RBG used to wear actually, but I couldn’t find a single one of the scrunchies with the little bow tails like mine. So weird. Maybe she just THOUGHT she bought it at Anthropologie because she’s there all the time buying tunics.

I want to get behind booties and I think they are cute on other people (although I don’t think they are cute with dresses) but I just can’t pull the trigger. Grrr. Would be so useful too. I think I feel like they make my feet look big. I did just buy some new snow boots as well as two new coats (much needed) but I really want to find a pair of booties I can like on me. I suppose the search continues.

I think if it’s a nude or neutral color and is low enough to show your ankle bone, with some kind of a stacked heel, it will be flattering. You need to roll your pants above your ankle too. I do think they’re cute with dresses, but not any boot looks good with any dress. It can be good though to take a warm-weather dress and add a cozy cardigan and ankle boots to make a fall outfit. I did that the other night with a black floral slipdress.

See they are cute on other people. I just don’t get behind the skirt though as it tends to cut the leg off. I suppose it works best on longer legs. I actually have lonnnng legs so it probably would look fine but I have this insane thing in my head about certain shoes making my feet look big. I do roll my jeans with heels. Maybe I just need to buy some and try. I want to like it so bad!

I do love dresses with long cardigans and boots. That is my winter go to as long as I can get away with it. I prefer dresses as I find them more comfortable. Whoever said jeans are comfy clearly isn’t short waisted like I am. They are always either digging in or falling down. I have found AG to be a pretty decent rise to not drive me nuts so I am making progress in wearing jeans more.

I did a bit of a winter shopping haul. I replaced my black leather jacket as mine was stolen last winter while I was out (SO MAD), some amazing Spanx faux leather leggings I am obsessed with, a new North Face winter coat (much needed being from CA moving to IL), a few long sleeve shirts….ok and maybe a Gucci belt hehe. Oh and some boots as somehow all of mine are suede. Oh, I also grabbed some fleece lined tights which I am loving. Ok so I guess I bought a lot. I really needed winter clothes!

@JD How do you style the Spanx faux leather leggings? I tried them on probably this time last year and SO comfy! But I passed on them, I have no idea how to style them.

I tried on the Spanx leather leggings in a boutique. They looked great on the hanger, but I was disappointed with them on… they just looked shiny, like in a spandex way. I would wear them with an oversized sweatshirt top or something, or an off the shoulder sweater, if I bought them.

I wear them with longer t’s or sweaters or tunics. I cannot stand seeing someone’s crotch in leggings haha so it has to basically cover that. I like to layer with leggings. A longer t with my jean jacket is one I go to often with suede boots. I like to mix textures a lot. I also often pair a longer t with a denim shirt I have or a boyfriend blazer. I pretty much always layer when leggings are involved for whatever reason, it just looks right to me when I am putting it together.

They are a bit shiny, which I wasn’t totally into at first but they have grown on me.

@Kate I am having a serious off the shoulder moment! Sometimes tricky finding tops that actually stay off the shoulder with big boobs but I can’t get enough.

It took me a few years to warm up to booties. I like them a lot now. I have a grey pair with a low stacked heel that I’ve been wearing for a few years now and they’re super comfy, and I can dress them up or down. I just ordered a flat black pair. In the fall and winter, I do a lot dress + sweater + tights + boots or booties combos.

Yeah, black ones look good with jeans, skinny black pants, or black tights. If I’m going bare leg I like a taupe or something.

        I am pretty into these:

I won’t spend that much unless I know I would wear them often so I will look for something similar but a bit cheaper.

      • Kate October 9, 2018, 4:13 pm

Those are cute, you just have to be sure your ankle isn’t covered. They could be a little high.

      • JD October 9, 2018, 4:18 pm

Ya I agree the ankle not being covered is key. When I think of when I have seen others wearing them that is the look i prefer. I shall keep the shopping going. I like the overall look though so will aim for that style. Luckily shopping online all day is hardly punishment for me.

Oh, but tomorrow I have to vacuum everything as my new vacuum comes. Nothing worse than the time between when your vacuum breaks and when you get a new one. It hasn’t even been that long and I am grossed out by my floors. Luckily I found a great deal online…hence the waiting.

The bum bum cream smells so good! I really thought the cult following was all hype but I genuinely love it just as much.

I wish I could wear ankle boots but I can’t get them over the line. I’m tall but have short calves and hefty thighs so they just make me look squat and heavy. Boo.

This planner is a new favorite:

I just ordered this. Anthro has it but it’s about $4 more, plus I have a Nords gift card. I bought last time a bit after the new year at Nords for $8 and fell in love with it. It has pockets for documents. Also so cute!
