Wendy’s Picks

Wendy’s Picks,” is a feature in which I highlight stuff I like or recommend in the worlds of fashion, gift ideas, home decor, makeup, websites, entertainment, and recipes. I haven’t done one of these in ages, but I’ve got some things I’ve been enjoying and am happy to share in case they may bring you some enjoyment too:

Coop Pillows
If you follow my Instagram stories, you may already know that a few months ago Drew and I bought new pillows from Coop and LOVE them. They were an IG purchase, like 80% of my purchases are these days (the algorithm finally has my number); I saw an ad, liked the description of the pillows, read some great reviews, was impressed by Coop’s high grade from Consumer Reports, and took advantage of a sale. The pillows arrived – Drew got the Eden and I got the Original – we spent a couple days adjusting – you can remove or add filling – and now my decades-long search for the perfect pillow is over. Drew agrees, and if you buy them, you probably will, too.

Glo mask
Back when the pandemic started and we were all Zooming and FaceTiming and House Partying — did anyone try the House Party app for the five minutes it seemed to be popular? — around-the-clock, I was a little pained at what I noticed about my face. I was 43 – just entering middle age, and seeing my face a lot more than I had in years. It had aged a lot since I last really took stock. So, I reached out to an aesthetician friend of mine – if you live in Chicago, you can visit her in person, which I recommend! – and asked her if she could recommend some products for me. She put together a little package, and this was among the items. It’s been three years and this is still one of my favorite products ever. What a work horse! I notice a difference the next day every time I use it – glowy, plumper-looking skin.

Le Bon Shoppe Wally Socks
I’ve mentioned Le Bon Shoppe socks before, but not these specific socks, and these specific socks – they’re called Wally Socks – are currently my favorite. They hit at just the right height on my leg (between my ankle and my calf), they’re cute, and they’re so soft, but not thick. They’re regular everyday socks that you can wear comfortably in shoes, but they also feel really soft and cozy just wearing around the house, too, in lieu of slippers (or inside slippers if you need extra warmth). The days when I have on a fresh, clean pair of Wally socks are the best days.

Oribe Curl Gelee
My hair stylist and friend of mine used this stuff on my hair at my last appointment – she said it would define my waves/curls, and give me a nice hold while keeping my hair soft, and she was right! Plus, the jar looks so pretty I can keep it out on my bathroom vanity without it looking like a mess.

Benefit Gimme Brow
A few years ago, my eyebrows totally fell out as a symptom of my frontal fibrosing alopecia. I couldn’t use any kid of brow gel because there was quite literally no strands of hair for the gel to stick to. I got microbladed instead and for a few years, that was fine. The microblading has now faded – it’s been almost six years – but I now have enough eyebrow regrowth that I can use brow gel with some success, and Benefit Gimme Brow has been working really well for me. It gives some definition without being overpowering or too dark (there’s a wide collection of colors).

Alison Roman’s Pumpkin Muffin Recipe
Because my kids love pumpkin muffins, I’ve tried many recipes over the years, and none is as loved in my family as this one from Alison Roman. Judging by the reviews (over 4K 5 stars), I don’t think my family is alone in this. The 1/3 bottle of maple syrup the recipe calls for might have something to do with it. Every few weeks, I make a batch (in a mini muffin pan) and for a few hours, I am my kids’ favorite parent.

I’m enjoying you posting more Wendy, including on the forums and your IG Q day.

That’s all I had to add.

I meant to comment yesterday. Those muffins look really good. And I really want to try that curling product. I use hair products so sparingly I am using a trial size of a Moroccan oil curl cream and I’m like, a month in. I use like a small pebble’s amounts product, that’s how fine my shoulder length hair is.

One product that I love is…my husbands clay pomade. I use a little dab when I do my part to keep all the frizz down and can also use it carefully at the roots-underneath to give a little volume.

I love the new content. It’s so nice to see you here more and it’s a great start to the year and signifies good things to me. And the advice is as spot on as always. ❤️
