“Wendy’s Weekly Picks,” is a feature in which I highlight stuff I like or recommend in the worlds of fashion, gift ideas, home decor, makeup, websites, entertainment, and recipes. Of course, many of the things I link to will be affiliate products, which means I’ll receive a commission on any click-throughs or purchases you make through the affiliate links. As always, I appreciate your support! Here are my favorite finds this week:
Three times in the last month, I’ve complimented people on their winter coats and all three times they turned out to be wearing the same thing: this slim down coat from Uniqlo. (And it’s on sale!). It’s not bulky like a lot of down coats and I’m told it’s very warm (and the numerous positive reviews say the same). I love my own winter coat and it’s still in great shape even after four winters, but I might get this one as a back-up or to rotate for a little variety. I only wish it came in a bigger variety of colors.
Speaking of cold, I’m thinking of these thermal leggings for a long underwear solution. Has anyone tried them?
I went for my first post-pregnancy bra fitting yesterday and ended up buying two new bras, both in brands I’ve been wearing for years. If you happen to be big-busted like I am, I highly, highly recommend the brands Chantelle and Prima Donna (there are others that are very good, too — like Fantasie and Le Mystere, for example — but those are my current favorites). This is a wonderful t-shirt bra (I like this t-shirt bra, too), and this one’s a great choice for pretty but supportive, which isn’t always the easiest to find when you’re DD or bigger (I tried this one on for Drew yesterday and his eyes about popped out of his head). They’re pricey, but if you care for them (rotate them and hand wash them regularly) they can last a very long time — just move to the middle and first hooks as they stretch out.
While I was bra-shopping anyway, I decided to buy new sports bras since the single one I own and wear two to four times a week is like three years old and has two broken hooks. This is my favorite sports bra for big boobs — I’ve been wearing it for years and it seriously keeps the girls locked in tight without doing that awful uniboob thing that’s so unattractive. If you are smaller-chested and don’t need as much support, this one is a great bet. And if you live in NYC, I recommend seeing Iris, aka “the bra whisperer,” to get a proper fitting and personal recommendations for your size and frame.
But maybe you aren’t in the market for a new bra. Maybe what you really need is a vintage apple-picking ladder. No? How about a busted-up Oscar-the-Grouch trash can with a beautiful rope handle for a hundred bucks? Oh, Anthropologie… when you’re good, you’re really good (use code XTRA40 to save an additional 40%). And when you aren’t, well…
Do you have a know a kid between the age of 3-7? He or she would probably LOVE this calendar (especially with some calendar stickers!). It’s half off now and still relevant for 11 1/2 more months, which makes it win-win for everyone. Jackson is obsessed with his — spends at least 20 minutes every day putting stickers on different dates and writing the names of his friends and family’s birthdays in the appropriate spots — but then, he’s a kid who has an unusual thing for dates and calendars…
Finally, if you’re like everyone in my life right now and you’re fighting a little winter cold, try this (unless you’re a teetotaler, in which case maybe just this). It works! And even if it doesn’t, and you still get sick, drink three of them and you won’t care!
