Wendy’s Weekly Picks

Screen Shot 2014-11-17 at 11.12.31 AM

Wendy’s Weekly Picks,” is a feature in which I’ll highlight stuff I like or recommend in the worlds of fashion, gift ideas, home decor, makeup, websites, entertainment, and recipes. Of course, many of the stuff I link to will be affiliate products, which means I’ll receive a commission on any click-throughs or purchases you make through the affiliate links. As always, I appreciate your support! Here are my favorite finds this week:

This is my favorite eyeshadow collection — the only one I use, really. The first three colors on the left are my “everyday” shades and the five on my right are my “going out” shades. The middle ones are for selfies. Just kidding. That would be funny though, right? Actually, hey, marketers out there should get on that: selfie products. I’m not sure what other products you could have besides makeup. And a selfie stick, of course. Oh, wait! I just did a search on “selfie products” and found this and this and this. But this wet brush is my favorite.

It’s getting to be hot chocolate weather (dudes, it’s going to be in the 20s here tomorrow!) and this is a delicious one to to try and the one I almost always go with. And to make it really special, froth your milk. (And to make it really, really special: add peppermint schnapps, hmmm).

I mentioned these boots in my weekly picks post last week, but now that they have arrived in the mail and I’ve tried them on (and worn them a few times), I can confirm: they are, in fact, awesome. They look great AND they are so super comfortable (and easy to run in, as it turns out; I have had several near-misses with the bus the last few days and these boots got me to the stop on time with nary a twisted ankle). Bonus: they’re marked down 30%!

Speaking of sales, Anthropologie is having a 25% off sale on dresses and jewelry this week. I love this (5-star-reviewed) tulip hem dress by Maeve. I have a skirt by Maeve and it’s one of the most flattering pieces in my wardrobe, fyi. These earrings would be perfect for upcoming holiday parties (they come in seven different colors, too!). And for said holiday parties, how freakin’ sexy is this dress (also with multiple 5-star reviews)?? Finally, these antler earrings are pretty amazing.

My friend and DW contributor, Matthew Van Colton, is in an off-broadway production that opens tonight. Blank! The Musical is a groundbreaking, interactive theatrical musical improv that allows audience members “[to] pick a show title, write lyrics and music and direct the action using their mobile devices.” Every night is essentially a different show since it’s all improvised, and it’s really pretty mind-blowing how incredibly talented these performers are to not only think so quickly on their feet, but to make up brilliant songs and sing them so beautifully. It’s truly a feat! If you’re in NYC or visiting in the next few weeks and if you’re into improv, or musical theater, or just watching talented people do their thing, try to go see Blank, The Musical. I’m planning to go at least twice during its run. The six-week limited engagement continues through Dec. 14.

Finally: ModCloth is having a 25% off sale. I LOVE this cardigan, this sweater jacket, these boots (which I think are the perfect mid-price boot for fall and winter to wear with skirts and dresses or with jeans tucked into them), and for all the crazy cat ladies among us, this scarf.

Have a great week, everyone!

Re: hot chocolate weather, here in Minnesota it’s not supposed to get above 20 for the next like 5 days I think. I’m bummed.

Same here in WI. I think right now we’re at 14 degrees. I don’t know what the windchill is but it’s cold.

I have the ModCloth cardigan in oatmeal and it’s so flattering on. The asymmetrical zipper in great and it drapes so nicely when it’s open. We had temps around 0 F last week. This week we’re back up to 0 Celcius which is so much nicer but still crisp-wintery.

I love the “Naked” eye palette. I’m too fair to wear any of the colors on the far right but the left are my every day and the middle are my going out colors. I’ve even used it on my mom who has an olive complexion and the colors looked wonderful on her as well. The price put me off for the longest time but then I loved it so much I bought “Naked 3” when it came out. “Naked 3” has mostly pinks and neutrals so it’s really nice for the summer

Oh gawd, I just ordered that sexy dress in both colors in in two sizes each just in case. … You guys, I’m going bananas. Do you want to know how much money I’ve spent in the last two months on clothes, shoes, and jewelry? I don’t know what’s considered “normal” but I’ve spent more over the last couple of months than I have over the last couple of years. I’m going nuts. Wendy, no more weekly picks. Just cut it out. I’m weak.

Is this because you’re smitten perhaps? I know I tend to revamp the wardrobe when I want to impress.

Maybe. But it started even before (re)met THE LOVE OF MY LIFE…… I need to be restrained. For so many reasons. I feel out of control.

My next purchase this winter is a pair of Sorel’s.

I finally found brown boots I liked on Sunday at this little shop on Southport. Speaking of Southport, tons of new restaurants and shops are opening. We should do a winter outing there.

I have that Naked eye palette and I’m I’m completely out of the second and third colors. I love those as my base colors.

If you go to a reseller of Urban Decay, like Ulta, you can buy a lot of the colors independently. There are a few that only come in the palettes but most you can buy little pots of. I did that with my two most used colors.

I did that with the third color! Now I need to do it with the second color in the palette. Actually, I should just buy the four I use the most and keep them together for traveling purposes.

Sephora has an Urban Decay tin that holds 4 of the little pots, so you can create your own mini-palette. You get more of your go-to colors, plus it’s a better size and shape for traveling.

Hahaaha the part about the eyeshadows for selfies cracks me up, so funny, I think I actually do stuff like that. Some things just work for pictures but not for real life.
