I agree that you need to see a therapist, one that can help you unpack how your past is impacting your present. I honestly cannot get a real read on the dynamics of your marriage, but I don’t think being in a relationship where one parent puts down the other (even if the underlying complaints are true – are you a lazy parent? Do you help with your son?) is good for a child to grow up in. It wasn’t for you. But before I do anything else, I would get that therapy, if I were you. Because no matter what you do with your marriage, if you don’t address the underlying issues, you’ll be stuck in the same mental and emotional place until you address those issues. “Wherever you go, there you are” isn’t just about physical location.
