Sooooo I may have found a way out of our contract with the venue. Apparently my husband and I brought back a souvenir from vacation that we get to meet in early May if everything goes well.

If you know me in real life please don’t say anything. But I’m fairly certain a doctor’s note could at least get us out of a contract for health reasons/acts of God.

If nothing else, here’s teeny tiny bit of happy news I can share anonymously with people I’ve never met in hopes it cheers you up just a smidge. <3

Also, sorry to hijack back to COVID, but wanted to add: @ktfran To be clear, I didn’t think you and your husband are part of the problem! Just in general, I side eye a lot of the people heading south in the winter during the pandemic. I totally understand wanting more space, sunshine, and outdoor access this winter, but have been on the fence about whether it’s right for us and wonder if we’ll be judged for it even though we’d not be going anywhere to live it up. As it stands, most states with warm weather in the winter are states that I wouldn’t particularly care to be in during COVID times. I have also thought CO might not be bad in Feb or March, even though they also have cold and snow, because of the sunshine and year-round outdoor options. But, we’ll see. We were planning to keep an eye on how things progress in different areas and decide later.

As a side note, BG traveled quite a bit for work for probably 10 years and this was his first winter staying put in Chicago in a long time. He’s from the suburbs originally but was still shocked by how dark, grey, and cold it gets, and how hard January and February can be. He asked if it was usually like this and I told him this past winter actually felt milder than most.

Congrats Ver!!! All the best. What happy news this thread has seen.

My boyfriend is leaving Sunday for a month for work. Usually his site visits are for two weeks but there is an additional two week quarantine period. We’ve never been away from each other for so long. Will miss him.

The warm states may do better COVID-wise in the winter as people will be able to continue socializing outdoors. I do hope that Philly holds it together this fall but I could see things getting bad quickly once it gets cold.

There is speculation that maybe Phoenix got hit so bad for so long that they’ve developed a degree of partial herd immunity, which would explain why case rates have dropped so quickly from the peak. If true (highly speculative) that would make it more resistant to outbreaks going forward.

Also, related to Copa’s comment- I live in a mild-winter area. It would probably be a perfect spot to temporarily relocate for a couple of months in winter! A lot of people here are moving out, though. Like, in record numbers apparently. So it’s a good time to renegotiate rent and/or buy a place (if you have some $$)… But that’s also lead to the big “vacation” places like the lake seeing an uptick of people and also people not following social distancing/mask wearing rules! So that’s becoming a problem. Meanwhile I have barely left my house except to go to the same 5 or 6 places! So frustrating.
