I’m sorry @stonegypsy. 🙁 when it rains, it pours. If you don’t have too much planned over the weekend, maybe just spend it relaxing. Sometimes after an emotional week, I need a day to just take bubble baths and watch feel good movies on Netflix.
Yeah, I’m going to an exhibit opening party at the museum on Friday evening, and a movie/game night on Saturday, but other than that I don’t have anything. So I will probably make myself a nice breakfast and go for a bike ride on Saturday, and spend Sunday being super low-key. A bubble bath sounds pretty wonderful. And maybe some cross stitching and movies.
Stonegypsy, I relate to what you’re going through. I broke up with my serious boyfriend about six months ago and have had a series of casual relationships since then. I decided a few weeks ago that I’m over the casual stuff for the time being because it was becoming too draining. When I broke it off with the last FWB, he did not take it well AT ALL. He sent me some rude texts asking if I’d fucked anyone since him, which of course I didn’t respond to. Then he got drunk and texted me that I was being so disrespectful to him! He eventually apologized for that, but even the apology was bad. (He told me that he asked if I had slept with someone else not because he was jealous, but because it turns him on to think of me with other men. Gross.) I thought that would be the end of it, but he continued to text me for weeks after that, even though I wasn’t responding. It’s just now dying down, finally, and I feel kind of stupid for having boned such a jerk in the first place.

I fortunately have not had to deal with much of that (even the pushy guy took the ‘I don’t think we should see each other again’ quite well). But I have been there before, and that’s really exhausting and stressful to deal with. Are you able to block his number?
Stonegypsy, your weekends plans sound wonderful! Bike rides and movies and cross stitching sound super fun. I can totally understand why you’d feel drained after everything you mentioned. It sounds like this is a really good time to just take the time for yourself and recharge. Maybe take a dating sabbatical for a bit? Sending you internet hugs and wishes for a fun weekend!
My update is that last week I signed up for eharmony. I was feeling like I needed another avenue to “get out there” because what I’ve been doing (coffee meets bagel and generally being “out there” in the world doing my thing) isn’t really getting me anywhere. Needless to say, I got a LOT of attention the first few days to the point where I was thinking of shutting it down, it was so overwhelming. And few of them really caught my eye. In fact, most were “meh” and not very attractive, honestly… And lots of: I’m passionate about my job. Love living life. Love biking. (so many bikers!) Traveling. Laughing. All good things, but all the same! I’ve been weeding through them, and have a few options. And I’m having coffee with one guy (10 years older, a dentist, is not from the US) on Saturday. I’m not very excited, but he’s nice, and it’s a chance to push myself to do something different. After 1 week? I’m not very optimistic about the whole thing, but it’s something different.
@stonegypsy – “me time” is so essential, especially after a breakup. When I left my ex, I got out there and dated, and then I was exhausted…dating is a lot of work. So when I did a slow fade from OKC, one guy I was kind of seeing ended up pressuring me to meet up. I got really fed up. I was traveling for work and for pleasure that summer, so I just got pissed the eff off! How dare someone think they have any right to MY TIME! From then on, I put me 1st. If I won’t, nobody else will.
@shakeourtree – depending on what phone you have, you can block individual numbers. How dare he have any right to you, he has none. Also, check out @textsfromyourex on Instagram, hilarious!@Moneypenney – ugh, the I travel/be outdoors/rock climb/party/am super awesome thing gets super old in online dating. AT some point, I felt I was reading the same profiles with different pictures. Good for you for getting out there! I love it when people join dating sites and then actually go on dates, instead of those that are like “well I dunno…I don’t really know you…blah blah.” So you go girl! Check out Philz Coffee in SF if you get a chance, gets crowded, but amazing coffee.

Yeah, I’m taking the next few months (at least) completely off from dating. I just don’t have the emotional bandwidth for romance right now. Problem is I have an incredibly flirtatious personality, it’s just how I talk to people, and it gives people the wrong impression. But it takes a lot of effort to not.
I’ve had a rough week (I’ve been sick, my dog has had an upset stomach, and work has been hard) and last night I told Lion Tamer that I wanted to go to a certain restaurant tonight and sit with him in a corner and drink bourbon & ginger and eat loaded tater tots and he’s like “OK!” So we’re going. 🙂 Also he was really supportive and called me last night to let me talk about my week. Very sweet.
Also we’re still going hiking on Saturday and he is going to pick me up and go to a local state park near my house and he is planning the route. Awwww.
Stone that sucks. I’m sorry friend. Your weekend plans sound super nice though, I hope you get some much needed “you” time.
I recently won a drawing for a spa gift card and I’m thinking after this month of moving, traveling 15 out of 20 days and still working three jobs I’m gonna need it lol!
Moneypenny I hope your date is at least fun! Maybe you’ll meet a new friend at the least? Or maybe he’s really awesome in person. Either way I hope you have a nice time.

I don’t understand the whole -doing online dating but not actually going on dates- thing. That just seems like such a waste of time. Unless you just want a penpal. I’ve done match and okc, back in my mid-20’s, and I went on a lot of dates that never led to second dates, and it was just annoying and burned me out. I’m much more discerning now about what I am looking for and really don’t want to waste my time or energy if someone is not catching my interest or I’m just not feeling it.
